As long as it is based on the design work they did, yeah.
Clues for the Next challenge..
I myself do not know a lot about weta, so I would hope that a list might be put out with some examples of acceptable …stuff
Like, the sets on lovely bones…? I would have no idea if that would work : /
Are things like the statue of the orc in front of Blizzard’s headquarters an option? It’s made by the Weta Workshop but it’s concept and design are Blizzard’s.

In any case this looks awesome. I’ll see if i have time to give it a shot.
So I take it Halo is in then?
Oh yeah- what about their future projects such as: Tintin and the Hobbit part 1- can we do things inspired by these ideas?
Halo is kosher, as long it is the stuff the WETA WORKSHOP built.
BTW, we needs some votes in the current challenge, before I take it out back and shoot it.
yeh i don’t think it was mainstream enough…i’d never even heard of ansel adams…
so roberto how long are you holding off on this one for?..cos i’m thinking i’m not going to bother with the cgchallenge and i have quite an ambitious idea for the WETA challenge
Barad-dur
the dark lords tower itself…
I’d say if you started it on Monday (1st of feb) and ran it for 2 months (till 1st April) you’d probably get quite a few high quality entries
Hmmmm… so doing some research, Aslan from “The Chronicles of Narnia” appears to have been created by Rythm and Hues, while WETA did… other things for the series. In a world where movies have multiple studios working in tandem, how cut and dry will it be to pick out what WETA did and didn’t do?
that is why i concentrated on the WETA workshop and not WETA digital.
As soon as I get a break I will generate a master list.

thats a list of all the films the weta workshop has worked on, as well as what areas they contributed to (like miniatures, costume etc)
Weta did toooons for Narnia - get the Crafting Narnia artbook - it’s fantastic and full of beautiful concept work and sculpture work as well as amazing weapons [once again] they’ve done for those movies.
Also the LOTR artbooks are a great resource
Obviously they designed a lot of stuff for Avatar, District 9 and King Kong. That challenge should be a blast!
Ok guys, we do a soft lauch next week.
I would start doing some research of what you want to model.

This could be loads of fun, I think I will go ref hunting and hope I will find the time I need to participate in this

Yup. Will most likely start a thread, but no guarantees on getting it done. Most of my time is dedicated to CGChallenge XXV. I was thinking something small, such as one of the bugs from king Kong, but we’ll see how it goes.

Oh man, I have a lot of personal projects going on that I really should finish, but this sounds pretty fun. I’ll see what I can do.
Roberto, could I do Meet the Feebles do you think?
It’s Richard Taylors first major credit (I think … it was 1989) and Weta claim to have been founded “in the back room of Richard Taylor and Tania Rodger’s Wellington flat in 1987”. So I assume it’s RT Effects, which is Weta pre-1994.
Oh this is so awesome. I could do a Hippo with a machine gun!
I have a huge man-crush on WETA (workshop and digital) since I first saw Brain Dead and then the others etc. My family are all kiwi’s and I remember my brother auditioning for Frighteners, and hearing how it would change the NZ industry … which it sort of did. And, I just finished reading an biography on Peter Jackson. Again such an inspiration
Must submit reel one day and go home!
