Clues for the Next challenge..

#47

i spent nearly all of yesterday looking over all my Lord Of The Rings art and reference books and the extended dvd’s…and I can’t choose anything…lol…there’s just so much awesome stuff

i did however do a sort of weta inspired piece the other day for fun…i did myself as an Avatar person…using my portrait from the classical portrait challenge as a starting point

but yeah…i’ll definitely be doing something LotR inspired…

#48

Very nice and open challenge subject!
I instantly thought of the Cave Troll in LotR as my choice for this challenge.

#49

hhmm question, so does this mean we choose one particular movie Weta worked on and choose either char, obj, etc that they did and remake it? Sorry if I don’t know a lot about this. But I’m interested

#50

Well I would like to focus on the WETA Wokshop.
(As in designed and built by them)
For example the AMP suit from avatar would be out , because it was designed and
built by Stan Winston studios.

#51

Awesome, can this be stretched to include stuff from Bad Taste or Dead Alive? Not really weta but a few of the founders worked on those.

#52

Why not…

#53

so is weta digital included in the ‘weta workshop’ umbrella?

#54

Still debating that.

I After all dont want this to become an Avatar lovefest

#55

yeh i see what you mean…

#56

So, something like the Neon Genesis Weta work would fit?

#57

As long as it is based on the design work they did, yeah.

#58

I myself do not know a lot about weta, so I would hope that a list might be put out with some examples of acceptable …stuff
Like, the sets on lovely bones…? I would have no idea if that would work : /

#59

Are things like the statue of the orc in front of Blizzard’s headquarters an option? It’s made by the Weta Workshop but it’s concept and design are Blizzard’s.

?

In any case this looks awesome. I’ll see if i have time to give it a shot.

#60

So I take it Halo is in then?

Oh yeah- what about their future projects such as: Tintin and the Hobbit part 1- can we do things inspired by these ideas?

#61

Halo is kosher, as long it is the stuff the WETA WORKSHOP built.

BTW, we needs some votes in the current challenge, before I take it out back and shoot it.

#62

I lol’d prety hard at this.

#63

yeh i don’t think it was mainstream enough…i’d never even heard of ansel adams…

so roberto how long are you holding off on this one for?..cos i’m thinking i’m not going to bother with the cgchallenge and i have quite an ambitious idea for the WETA challenge

Barad-dur
the dark lords tower itself…

I’d say if you started it on Monday (1st of feb) and ran it for 2 months (till 1st April) you’d probably get quite a few high quality entries

#64

Hmmmm… so doing some research, Aslan from “The Chronicles of Narnia” appears to have been created by Rythm and Hues, while WETA did… other things for the series. In a world where movies have multiple studios working in tandem, how cut and dry will it be to pick out what WETA did and didn’t do?

#65

that is why i concentrated on the WETA workshop and not WETA digital.

As soon as I get a break I will generate a master list.

thats a list of all the films the weta workshop has worked on, as well as what areas they contributed to (like miniatures, costume etc)
