Cloth - not working

Alright, I see a lot of success stories, online, about blender cloth sim … what I don’t understand is why I’m not joining the chorus.

I have a rigged character with armature and collision modifiers (in that order). I have a mesh (the cloth) also having the armature modifier … and cloth modifier (in that order). The Cloth waist is pinned and cloth collision is enabled. When I animate, the rest of the cloth falls through (into the character). Why is this happening?

Where have I gone wrong?

Are they on the same layer? Are they meshes? Are the repelling forces set up properly? Are collisions for cloth turned on?
I did lately one character with shirt and pants and cloth is working maybe not beautifully but rather properly. It is always better to do a test with simple meshes before doing any serious work.

Therein lies the solution. Alas! I had the character’s clothings on a different layer. So, both must be on the same layer for things to work? Interesting. Meanwhile Dac77, you’ve been a tremendous help in this forum. Thanks
