Cloth fabric shader

#1

Hello,
I am using maya and mental ray. I am on process of rendering my model, and I have questions about shading and lighting. I am trying to make cloth fabric material look more realistic, but I have no idea where to start.
I am total noob when it comes to shading and lighting.
I just used blin material, but I am not sure whether it’s the right material for fabric.
Can anyone explain what option I need to tweak…or any kind of tutorial links, so I can study it?

Thank you.

In general, I would say that the fabric has the following features:

  • less reflective
  • a bit glossy reflection (depending on the fabric)
  • IOR … hmm… 1.2 -1.4
  • bump (depending on the fabric pattern)
  • displacement

well… that’s basically it…

here is a fabric texture:

Thank you so much for the reply.
I will try to apply as you said.
What is IOR?

IOR = Index of Refraction

if I am not wrong…
