cineshock.net is back. There’s a loose end here and there, but functionality is all there. Several new features:

More robust forums with image upload and custom avatars.
Post in-line shockwave in your messages. yep. that’s what I said.
Sketch and Toon Gallery (Shockwave gallery in the works)
More on the way.

That would be a real shame although to be honest coming from intel i’m not in the least bit surprised…

I’ll definately be stopping by the site, i’ve got a few things i want to create in Director using some stuff from c4d and any resources will be very handy. :slight_smile:

It doesn’t surprise me, but don’t expect Macromedia to drop it anytime soon. It’s built into the core language now. I think it’s here to stay. There was even talk of some optimizations and support for more advanced GPU functions. We shall see.

The good news is that the language set that is there will not go away, so there’s no reason to shy away from it. Even if Macromedia decided to can it, their Director development moves at a glaciel (sp) pace, so it would be sometime before we see any adverse affects.

Do you have a link to an article? I would like to read about this.

I read it on one of the lists and there seemed to be consensus that Intel are/have dropped it.

Dunno what Macromedia’s position is. I hope they improve it and make it easier to use.

Thanks. I haven’t been real motivated to do much with it for awhile, but my ego is easily inflated, so a nice comment like yours from time to time, sparks me to spend time on it.

The newly released Director MX 2004 has some Shockwave 3D improvements in it. Most notable is support for hardware antialiasing and a completely rewritten and improved raycasting algorithm.

These are minor in the big scheme of things, but it at least gives hope that the platform will continue.

Hi 3dg,

Thanks for the quick upload. the tutorial really helped and
I’m now able to export animation to director.
I’ve only just started using director mx and feel a bit daunted,
but that’s never stopped me before :slight_smile:

I could use your help on a crash problem I’m having when
exporting w3d files.
I’ve got a vertex mapped skinned character with a uvw colour
texture map on it.

Exporting everything, makes c4d crash.
When I delete the bone hierarchy, I can succesfully export the geo and texture map.
When I delete the material tag and export the geo and the skeleton motion , I’m succesfull in exporting the w3d file.

I’m a bit at a loss. I’ve made sure the map is a mulitple of 2 (512x512) and that the format is recognised by director mx (tga). There’s probably something evident I’m missing.
