Child's Play WIP

#1

I watched Child’s Play again a couple of nights ago, so I figured I’d try to do a Chucky animation.

It’s in early blocking stages, so do lemme know what you think!

Hi Drew, I like where you’re going with it. But when he walks, it looks like his feet are just sliding across the ground.

Yeah I did a slight pivot tweak on his feet because I found myself doing that while acting it out. Though once animated, I do agree with you that it looks terrible. I’m gonna take that out for the next pass for sure.

Thanks!

I think I agree with the feet being to floaty, maybe you could try lifting his feet higher with each step and lean back, exagerrate it more.

This seems like my area of expertise lol. I have to ask, are you going for the actual Chucky walk or are you just doing an acted out walk as the Chucky character?

for the walk, i think that rotation in the body (leaning back and front) should be coming from the hips. it looks there is no rotation in the hips at all.

Also I think the part when he notices we are watching, I don’t like how the body quickly rotates towards us leaving the feet in their place. This pose looks very uncomfortable. To remove this, I think you could to reorganise a little:

Basically here he freezes in his creep, looks at us while frozen, rotates torso with feet frozen and hands and face in shock, changes stance to standing and acting like he wasn’t creeping.

I think it should be freezes in his creep, looks at us while frozen (only face, rest of body still frozen in creep), changes stance (frozen in creep, then a quick jump to new pose, limbs flailing a little) with hands and face in shock, then acting like he wasn’t creeping.

Hi Chucky!

I’m definitely just doing a regular sneak, not based on Chucky at all. Correct me if I’m mistaken, but Chucky’s sneak has like super-tiny footsteps? He doesn’t really lean forward or anything like that, right? I haven’t seen Bride or Seed, where he’s gotten the CG treatment. I’ve only seen the first three, where it’s all puppet effects and he doesn’t move around much on screen.

Drewpan,

Yes you are correct, Chucky doesn't really lean forward and he takes tiny footsteps when he walks or runs. That is only because he is still animatronic in all of the movies. So that is why his foot steps are tiny ones and why you don't often see his feet.
