I can understand why some people say “It’s so photo-realistic, you may as well take a photo” but this image does have elements that would make it very difficult if not impossible to photograph. The great natural pose you may be able to get with a lot of work (although cats are generally not very cooperative) but I think its the expression on the face that stands out the most, that big cat like smile and the soft expression in the eyes would be very difficult to do. If they wanted something very precise this is the only way to do it and I think and it has been very well done indeed.

technically it’s excellent. The overall form
 the individual hairs, for christ’s teeth
 jeebus. The only thing I can see that bothers me is the lack of any real shadowing. Granted it’s a white background, hinting at the fact that there is a ton of ambient lighting. Where is the specular light? The spec on the eyeballs looks funny, as well.
