Character Unwrap..
Hey, this one is only for the head, but goes over some decent concepts. What do you have to unwrap?
If you’re really interested in learning of unwraping proces I suggest you to buy Creature-D Texturing DVD with Dominic Quek from CG Academy. I know that it sounds like a advertisment, but I’ve learned many interesting things from it.
If you don’t have cash but you have any problems with UVW just ask me
@safe05: Hey, thank you for those tutorials! They´re great! I learned a lot about Max8-Pelting and the new unwrap-functions.
I’m glad they were of some help, Banshee. Let me know if you have any questions/suggestions.
If you were having problems with the one at EGo Farms, give it another try. Seems to be working now. Cheers!
Thats a really great unwrapping tutorial, cleared up some things. Anything for the rest of a body?
Not yet, but the same basic rules apply. I often break the body into parts (arms, torso, legs, hands, feet) and texture each one separately using either pelt (feet, hands) or standard projection shapes (cylinder->legs). Then, depending on whether I’m painting in ZBrush or PS, I will either stitch the UVs together into a continuous sheet or leave them separate like the attached image.
note: this character was very simple so I didn’t have to worry much about problems that can occur at the seams - just had color, bump, & spec. If you plan on using normal maps or displacement maps, you should try to remove as many seams as possible.
i am a total noob to UVW unwrap, after watching your tutorials i really figured out a lot of the stuff i had been doing wrong. What would be great to complete your series would be showing us how to import into photoshop, and Zbrush and how to make the textures/normal maps. Dont want you to think that im not grateful for the videos but i dont know what to do now that i have things unwraped!
No offense taken.
Those are actually next on my list. I’ve become consumed with making lesson plans for a class I’m starting soon, the CGChallenge here, and some other real-life dramas. But they will definitely be coming out (probably in about 1-2 weeks).
In the meantime, I can recommend the texture painting tutorial by cANT here at CGSociety. You should have an image that shows your UVs, you can now use that to figure out where certain features need to be placed. Stay tuned!
