hello all, this is my first try at a portrait. i finally purchased a wacom and this portrait is my first attempt to get the feel for it. i know it needs tons of work, but it only took an hour and a half as opposed to four or five with a mouse, so i was pretty happy with it. i mostly play around with 3d, but i will be doing alot of 2d stuff know. please let me know what you think, and what i could do to bbetter my portrait, thank you.

this was one of my many referances

Character:sons portrait
wow, not even a “that sucks” post. is it that bad or is everyone too lazy to point out my faults and or strong points.:surprised
Well, it’s not a bad first attempt, but it really looks more like an underpainting at this point than a finished piece. If your intention is to go realistic, it needs a significant amount of work on the shading and lighting. The whole piece looks really flat. Give the background and clothing as much attention as the head…right now the head looks pasted on in relation to the other elements.
Your initial sketch looks good, anatomy wise.
If you are going to continue working on it, I’d put it in the w.i.p. section. You’re more likely to get crits for improvement there.
Looks like you caught him on bad day
I agree witht he above notes… it’s very flat… you need more shading to create a feeling depth and form
