Character Rig/Anim reel

#201

He did.

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=451463

You might want to ask him if he would be kind enough to make the non-roll video in that thread available again.

Victor, your work is fantastic. If it’s possible, could you render the 3D Father model at the same resolution as the Padre3 sheet from Oli’s site? In the same base pose of course. It would be awesome to be able to compare the 2D and the 3D directly.

#202

The video is not there.Hope he uploads it again.

And scenes don’t work … Please man reupload

Cheers and thanks

#203

Many thanks for the info and goodwill. I fully understand that you can’t reveal more.
Again, great work!

Nottoshabi, the melScript I was talking about is not a generic one, but just an automation of a process related with the controls, groups and hierarchies that this particular rig.
The thing consists in, let’s say, when we are gonna switch from IK to FK for the arm, first getting the positions and rotations where the FK controls should be in that particular moment in order to keep the arm right on this same pose, moving them the Fk controls to this pos and rot, and then switching the IK blend to 0, in this case. Any IK and FK controls for any of the limbs and the head has its own script, and they are linked to the corresponding RMB.

yangchen60, I wouldn’t want to be rude, but mate! the way you asked right on your first post was, I mean, really disrespectful. I have been writing all along this thread that I will try to publish a tutorial as soon as I have time.
You suggested that I could write all it down in this forum and that it “won’t take me more than 10 minutes for all”. Man, If you really think so, then I’m not sure if you are actually aware of how much work there’s behind any model, rig or animation that people share here in CGTalk or in any other forums.
I’m really sorry to tell this to you and hope you will not be upset. I’m just trying to be honest and let you know my feeling about this issue. Anyway, for any concrete question I’ll be pleased in trying to help you.

#206

Great work! I’m really impressed with your animation controls! Thanks for sharing!

#207

If i sounded rude, sorry never meant to really.

You willing to help?Nice, thanks mate.So tell me how did you do the non-roll arm.I would like to hear both methods : counter-rotate and traditional roll-bone system

Make a video in camtasia making these two from scratch and upload on your site  and then send here the link

We would all be very greatfull.

Hi Victor,
I’m very impressed of your rig, for facial animation and constraints of the members to head or torso. Awsome !!

Are theses constraints builded & destroyed when you animate, or this is simple constriants blendied intetween all of theses parts of body ?

I’ve had test this kind of animated constraints, and each time, i’ve had some bads offsets appears during animation.

About facial animation, the snippets are ther 3d objects displayed in standard pannel ? or are they sone 2D snippets on a special panel, and if so is this some mel script ? Wich type of user interface control ?

Did you use driven keys to create your facial expression or other technic ?

(sorry for my bad english … )

#209

Victor, felicitaciones! totalmente increible tu trabajo

:applause:

Keep up the good work mate! :buttrock:

#210

…Hahahaha! Classic…

#211

Wow… um… just wow. yang, you ever think that the guy might have…i don’t know… work to do? Either your question/suggestion is coming off wrong or you are just being demanding. I’d suggest a 180 degree turn.

#212

Yep,i souned rude.I admit.Sorry folks.

#213

I love the style of the characters you make, great rig !! , is there certain book or reference you would recommend for rigging, i want to be able to have such flexibility when modeling, thanks

#214

A truly excellent reel! I’m amazed on all the cool stuff you can do with that business man rig!

#215

Totally amazing!
I am and have been watching this reel more than five times a day!
I cant get enugh best rig ever, great animation, great way to present your work, good music and such overall inviting sense to it. Really makes me want to hug the video :stuck_out_tongue: Wish I had it on cassete or something like in the good old days. So I could give it a good but gentle squeeze.

Just top notch man!

Ohhh and I also wanted to add how great of a person you must be to be helping everyone with questions! It is truly the mind of a master. Stop to compete, instead help eachother to bring us and the technology forward! I love it!

#216

Heya Vic!! What an impressive reel, i have no words, mate.

Esperemos que en España se siga haciendo 3d como este!!

Un saludo tocayo

Victor Marin

PS: RobertoOrtiz… hablas español?? xD

#217

this is an awesome reel. I am a modeler an I find it inspiring the things that you have showed in this reel. Congrats on a well desirved front page!

#218

Hombre Pepe, thanks for the post!
Effedebe, the space switching works with one multi-constraint node for each control, that is, for example the right hand control has parent constraint from head, torso and hip control. Then it’s a matter of changing the weights for each channel within this constraint node.
regarding the facial controls, as you have said, the sliders are 3d objects displayed in a standard pannel and attached with driven keys, no mel scripting involved here.
Ajouz, I would recommend the Gnomon and Autodesk and Farenheit dvd’s, as well as the great book “Stop Staring” from jason Osipa. There are much more good ones, though.
Dewed, I think you are too kind  but thanks a lot dude.

#219

Impresionante tio.
Ahora se quien ha hecho el tio de Cruzcampo
Enhorabuena. Como haces esos pedazos de controles?? Algún plugin??

Very good work.
Congratulationsss

Hi guys,

You can download this scene file (maya 7.0):

http://www.luvictu.com/reel/nonRollShoulderRig.mb

I have tried to simplify the scene in order to leave just the key things for the arm setup. Hope it’s still working

The point would be to play with the upVector control and see how the mesh is not twisting at all while keeping the right elbow orientation if we bend the arm. Please let me know your thoughts.

Bye!

can you give me this "nonRollShoulderRig.mb"?
can you share how you did it? it would be the perfect solution for one of my character!
