Character Model Thread

#1

Hello,

Except for that ‘big ugly bad dude’ thread a bit lower there hasn’t been much characters posted down here,I know at the official forums there a few and that anyone can get the best crits over at the WIP/Focused crit but it would be cool to see what characters people are working on these days or their best work so anyone from any level can post.Blender users are also welcome.

What do you think?

hiya stephan… I suppose I can go ahead n be the first to share my WIP unless someone beats me to it.

this needed some minor tweaking of the head which I’ve had on the backburner for a while-- I worked on that tonight.

A lot of this is based on Stahlberg’s body topology on the Maya forum here. In the process of continuing a cpl edges from the collarbone to then start on re-working edges on the back for the shoulder blade.
This was done in Wings3d

Hi thanks for posting.

It’s a very nice model,it’s hard to make females because we always want them to be as idealised as possible and keep the polycount low so she doesn’t look sixty years old.

Here’s a mesh I started last week, the funny thing about this beasty thing is that it started out as an old man but I got bored after a while and wanted to make it a bit more interesting,I took it for a “magnet Tweak” ride.A few minutes later, this monstrosity was born.

It’s a bit compressed and greyscaled…

Hope you like it

Cool thread.

Some kind of troll thing, I guess. Started off being somewhat of an experiment. I’m working on a few other things now so I may never go back to it but isn’t that often the way.

Hi,nice to see it’s kinda working

About your beast,I know you’re not going to finish it but it would be a good learning for you to just;

Scale the model up so you can get a nicely customizable shape for your tweak magnet, get into Tweak Mode/Vertice,activate the magnet and click(don’t drag yet) on say the vertex in the middle of the chin, hold the mouse button and while you do so,scale the magnet up and down using the - + keys until it grab part of the vertice and leaves a few unaffected, then just move the move to tweak but don’t let it down yet,you can still scale the magnet up to fine tune the selection(which can’t be perfect right away anyways) do this a few time from different angels and keep an eye not only on the mesh itself but also and most importantly it’s Contour/Sihlouette so you get a nice view from all angles.

Now I reckon you probably know all of this which brings me back to what I’m getting to…Give yourself Fifteen minutes or even less to tweak it,go nuts, don’t even add any topology, just give him over-exagerated shapes(like a very pronounced jaw) while always keeping the magnet from distorting the rest of the neighboring vertice. You’ll learn tons by doing so.

That’s why it is much prefered to setup the basic shape and topology then finally move it around and have it reacting as if you were manipulating a real skin

I use the tweak mode and standard operations with edges and faces as much as with vertice, depending of how much surface should be move and how.

Hope this helps somehow

Here’s a couple of Wings models done in recent history (but not currently working on).

Those are some very neat models.

Maybe is it because of the pose or the color but it makes me think a bit of one of John Feather’s models(not implying anything, obviously this is original and not even a human.)

Keep on bringing stuff, whether you think it’s good or bad
