Character: Female Head (yet another 1!) 1st wings model

#1

this is my 1st wings model, and my 4th CG character, I usually work in lightwave but I wanted to try a modeller with edges etc. Anyway, so after doing an elf, an old soldier and an orc I thought why not try doing a female head… anyhoo, here’s where I’ve got to so far, I’d guess that it’s about 9-10 hours of work at this stage, couple of screenshots for you and a quick lightwave render. I wans’t trying to be to fussy about the edgeloops etc I justed wanted to have some fun modelling and get used to the wings interface/workflow - must say that I’m really liking it, so many things are better than lightwave modeller, but there’s quite a difference between the two, totally different approach to 3d!

Probably won’t end up using the head in the this way, I’ve been fancying doing a bio-mechanical/android-y type thing with a female head, plenty of mixing between technical & organic so might use a previous save to develop that, anyway it ain’t my day job so I’m just having fun and playing with ideas.

Any critique welcomed, good or bad, we only learn through honesty! Thanks for reading, and Long Live Wings!

Nice Job

Sounds like you are genuinely looking for crits. So herez only thing I see… I think the jaw is a little too large for a female (ideal female anyway). The head looks a little too round on the sides maybe(?) These things wouldn’t make the model better but prettier imho.

I love LightWave, but most things I prefer to model in Wings. It feels more hands on. And the tools are easier to work with in a single perspective viewport.

Be sure to read through the sticky thread about the not so obvious things about Wings at the top of this forum.

I look forward to seeing more of your work

This is a really good display of Wings capacity (and of your skills  )

I just have to say that that must be from the camera angle used in the rendering.
If you look at the wires from wings those thing arent that obvious, but that’s just my humble oppinion :).

Thanks for your comments everyone, glad you like it, I’ll try and get some more done today and post some updates for you, since it’s saturday I reckon I can take the day off for wings!

@fuzatron - thanks for the crits dude, I was thinking that they might be a little too wide but at the same time I didn’t want to narrow them too much, it’s not meant to be 100% photorealistic, but I didn’t want that really non-existent chin&jaw you sometimes get… anyway I’ll be having a look at that whole area when I open up wings, cheers mate!

hey everyone, though I’d drop by and post a finished (or as finished as she’s gonna get) picture of the mesh. Added some eyelashes etc and procedurally textured her qucikly so here you go.

Work is progressing on the bigger model, the android/cybernetic mesh - I’ll post some screenshots when I start getting somewhere nearer a recognisable mesh, this one’s gonna be much more detailed and have far more attention paid to it, unfortunately that also means time
cheers all,
mlqds

The thread is 1 year old, chances are the pics have been deleted by now.

sorry 'bout that - the pics got deleted, but I know how annoying it is with missing pics so I got some space on my mate’s server again and have put them back up for ya. Not very exciting I’m afraid, but suppose it turned out ok for a learning exercise
