char: fat construction guy

#1

Hello all: This is my first attempt at modeling a human. It’s a cartoonish character for a small intro short I’m planning. Any C&C would be appreciated.

Hi

It’s hard to give you critique because the image is so small it is hard to see the details and how it was constructed

Looks like you have made pretty good use of splinage in the body I can’t tell alot about the hands and feet but the body looks good. Especially for your first human.
Just try to avoid the three point patches It looks like you may have a couple of them in the belly of character. Use a continuous splines all the way around or even a hook or five point patch would be better.
I don’t know if you know this but you can hit the page up key a few times to smooth out the model in shadedwireframe.
I’m not the best modeler in the world but in A:M I’ve found for animation you want to use as few splines as possible try to avoid using hooks and five point patches as much as you can. Don’t get me wrong they work well but you have more of a chance of getting creases when using them.
Looks like you have a good start on your model be sure to post some pics as it progresses!

dagooos: thnx for the comments, I think it’s just the way the shirt goes over the gut that makes it looks like three point patches. As far as I know there are none. I think I might have too many splines in the hands and I’ll try to fix that. I have started on the face and it’s not going quite as well as the rest did arghh!. I will post more when I figure out the attaching

I’m much further along with the wip now. Building the face was quite a chore. Posted a render preview http://www.numbmonkey.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=68 hope to have shaded wireframes up soon. I think I might have too many splines in the face. I would appreciate any advice.
