I really enjoyed making this model and attempted a faithful representation.
I wish I had found more references to build the inside of the church but for some reason there just are not very many on the web.

I also learned quite a bit. For instance, before this project I did not know how to mix textures on a single object with vertex paint. Doing so really helped add variety to the ground.

I have about four weeks worth of work into this.
It was all created in 3DS Max 2008 64 bit and rendered in Mental Ray. CS2 Photoshop for textures.
Final comp done with Windows Live Movie Maker.
In the final video I did no post processing other than the addition of text.

I sure hope I am not forgetting anything. :curious:

Good luck, to everyone participating and a big thanks to Roberto

In this challenge I wanted to get a good representation of the original photo. I’ve used alot of simple modelling with primitives and low level techniques to get finished within the timeframe. I did have time to work on some of the finer details like the lionheads and the trees. What I would have liked to work more on is the texture work, but as this is a modelling challenge my focus was mainly on getting objects done.

Most of the work has been done in 3ds max, and some parts altered in Zbrush. Textures are mostly just standard materials of max, but a few polypainted in Zbrush and modified in photoshop. Renders done with Mental Ray.

Thanks for setting up the challenge I had a good time with it and I hope everyone else did as well. Good luck to everyone
Regards
Anders Pabst Ovesen

Hiya,

I attempted the mimic octopus:

This fella was discovered in the 90’s and nobody knew what he was since he did a convincing job of mimicking the environment as well as other sea creatures!(For example he/she would bury himself and leave only a tentacle showing to mimic an eel).

Comments:
This was very hard and also very rewarding on self-confidence. I learned to run a marathon and not a rush as I always have to do. The most important part was to learn when to stop detailing and skip to another model. I tried to keep the step of one model a day but I have to reschedule to dedicate more tome to some of the model. I didnt’ spend time to do textured render since I preferred to focus on cleaning the model and do constistent geometry (and also to put as much quads as needed to ensure future comaptibility with displacements maps and bump maps if needed) this part was very important and time consuming when you have to do with boolean (like in the ipods, pads and so on): i hope this choice wont’ penalize me
I also would like to thank all the community and expecially Roberto as always for this opportunity.
Cheers to all !

I have no idea how it turned out to be 30, considering that I have made the last 6 items in 2 days only. So I guess that this challenge did make me a faster modeler, so thank you for that! When i heard about Pixar tribute i decided to make Ratatouille kitchen, I love the set up and all Kitchen Euipments since i watch the movie. As I am learning modelling, I am inspired by this Kitchen and wanted to make pixar models,i am very much inspired by the fine details in this kitchen and wanted to do the same.It took around 20-25 days to complete this scene, daily i used to model a single prop.As this is modelling challenge so i put more concentration only in modelling and not done shading part. Each renders took 12 mins (approx).I did those models with all my passion and enjoyed this challenge

HMC #31 - Pixar Tribute - Buzz Lightyear (lapachi)

COMMENTS & DESCRIPTION

First of all, I’d like to thank again Roberto Ortiz and every person for such a beautiful challenge, it was fun and I kinda felt like being a part of that beautiful family of Pixar during this challenge.

From the very beginning, my goal was to recreate Buzz Light Year as close as possible to the real model, to capture the mood and characteristics of him. I’ve worked lots of hours on his proportions and I even had to remodel his body couple times for that. It was tough but I think I managed to model him just as he deserves (though I’m not 100% satisfied)

Anyways, it was fun being in challenge with you guys and Good Luck everybody !

Oh, and here is the link to my extra animation of Buzz. Hope you Enjoy it:

* Description : Syndrome “The Incredibles”

Here is “Syndrome” on which I had a great time to work. It was an very interesting excercice for me to interprete the references I took from the movie and internet to construct a neutral version of this fantastic character, an excellent occasion too to improve my hair method and to learn about. I’ve spend two hour/day during two month and I used Softimage for the whole modeling step, Zbrush for body’s volume ajustments as well as Zsphere for the hair base construction, Photoshop for textures and MentalRay for render.
I’ve been very happy to participate among very talented artists at this harcore modeling challenge, this allowed me to learn and appreciate a little more the great work they are doing at Pixar.
Thank you one more time guys for all your comments and feedbacks during my WIP and Roberto Ortiz for setting up this challenge.
