CGWorkshops: Concepting Vehicles & Mechs using Photoshop and sketchup

#1

Massive Black’s Kemp Remillard’s passion for mech and vehicle design is apparent in his body of work, and in the number of high-profile studios who utilize the wide variety of concept types his workflow has been developed to create.

He joins us at CGWorkshops to share this workflow with you, and to give you his personal tips and feedback on your own work.

“This course is a basic yet thorough tutorial in how I approach vehicle/mech design for Games and Film,” says Kemp.*“Topics include thumbnail sketching, imaginary engineering, idea-generation, making rough block models in Google SketchUp, sketching using block models, refining and detailing mesh, image compositing and illustration, detailing techniques in Adobe Photoshop, problem-solving, narrative, and orthogonal diagrams for purposes of modeling.”

By the end of this six-week online class, you should have a far better idea of how to bring vibrant originality to your concepts, and have some fresh pieces for your folio.

“My design philosophy is grounded in reality with a heavy dose of cool sci-fi,” Kemp continues. “Let’s keep the design themes to a look and feel you would find in the modern world or the near-future. This course is about making something modern and human-constructed, that looks awesome and cool doing it, convincingly. After you take the course you can make all the steam-punk robots your steam-heart desires ;)”
