I’m in on this, but I warn that I’m booked for May so I won’t have much time.

Oh man!
I just finished an animation based on this very concept. We did it for the Dallas Mavericks, as an in-game piece to pump up the crowd. As someone who has been down this road, I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with.

Check it out… maybe it will give you guys some ideas

That turned out really nice. How long did it take you to complete and what software did you use.

You should really enter this challenge!

I will be uploading some TRON models later tonight to be used for those who join the challenge.

I’m happy to donate my updated tank model if anyone’s interested in having a go at the insanely difficult task of making the treads morph into existence at one end and disappear at the other whilst somehow synching with the movement (I tried this, followed the standard recipe for “follow path”, but I’m not really a generalist… the treads got minced part way through testing and the debris killed the pilot  ).

It’s in my folio, pm me if you’re up for it.

cheers

I know it is a FX contest.but can it be an environmental matte shot?I am a big fan of Tron,so if I enter this challenge and try to do a matte environment and put in some sort of effect in it,and submit a final shot at the end.dose that count?

#11

Go ahead!

Have fun!

#12

As promised here are the lightcycle files in OBJ format.

#13

Uhh I noticed a small typo in the challenge specific rules (I think this was for the Nuke contest):
“You may provide a heavily edited animation with all the trimmings (hell add live action if you want), as long a you provide another PLAIN animation of a side view of a Nuke going off.”

Unless it was a Tron inspired nuke…? Uber DEREZ??!

#14

interesting, btw, where can i get motorcycle sounds (original, not TRON)

Mate, you nailed one thing that so many others don’t, the giddying sense of scale. Truly epic, great fan piece!

Is this the work that inspired the “light jets” (or whatever they’re called in the new film)? Hmmm.

#18

Hi Guys,

Nice ideal for a challenge, mine was done years ago so it won’t qualify but have a look, it might make you smile! This was done for a friends film he was making where we would spoof movie clips rather than showing actual clips from the film. I think I cover each challenge in this and it was a fun little project!

Are we allowed to post parts of our WIP entry on other forums for C&C? For example, could I post the design of the light cycle WIP over at the Foundation3D?

This is a great challenge idea, I’m looking forward to seeing what people put together for this. Here is a link to some TRON stuff I am working on currently. It’s not eligible for the challenge though seeing that I started on it back in November. It’s a blending of the new style from TRON Legacy, with the designs from the original. Working on re-creating the Light Cycle sequence from the original movie with my updated style.
