CgTalk:FXWars! THE OCEAN Challenge:10

#25

Cool challenge Roberto! The subject is pretty challenging, and very well thought! But the point that it’s more about the TD aspects and less about the VFX/mattepainting/live-action/rotoscoping/compositing stuff makes it less appealing to me. At least: I won’t enter with a whole team, but maybe if I got some time, I’ll try to get something nice together. At least it would be a nice Reactor-exercise!

Further: that spotlight with Wim Coene is really cool! I’m glad to see that those winners get honored (again) with such a brilliantly cool spotlight!

Good luck to all entrants!

i will open my WIP soon

good luck to everybody

You know you could make it into a composite challenge very easy. Just composite someone on a rolling beach in a realistc fashion. I am sure you can do it.

Don’t think I’ll have tie for this, but isn’t waves on a beach harder than a rolling ocean? Fluids interacting with objects is difficult.

Count me in, ill be trying for the Ship or Open Ocean. And this is my first challenge… Looks awesome, good idea!

#35

I’d say so, too, yes. Also because when waves break, geometry physically disappears.

Roberto, why exactly does the first post of this thread contain the text "CgTalk:FXWars! THE OCEAN
SIMULATION WAR
by BEN BOLIN"
did I suggest this at some point? I don’t mind getting credit, but I don’t remember suggesting this topic. It’s a good one though.

I think I might try to participate in this one too. I’m a newbie in those things and recently I’ve done one ocean storm in Lightwave. I don’t know if it qualifies for the FXWars or not, I just like to hear some opinions from professionals. I only have to convert it to QuickTime, because I’ve rendered in *.tga format and then merged it in *.avi, so as soon as I convert it I’m gonna post it in here.
