CgTalk:FXWars! The Big Freeze/Blizzard Challenge:7

#41

So this means that if I don’t have a video camera I can’t participate? And even if I had one, here where I live neither one single flake falls from the sky. Also, if I joined a team, the program I use doesn’t handle film clips to edit them.

Thanks,

CHALLENGE SPECIFIC RULES:
[ul]
[li]You may provide a heavily edited animation with all the trimmings (hell add live action if you want), as long a you provide a written shot sequence OR a storyboard of your work.[/li][li]-R[/li][/quote]

[/ul]Sry for quoting this out but I had to. There’s written add live action IF YOU WANT. Pls explain if I’m wrong.

Thanks,

Legacy rule, Ill clean it up now.

Guys you know that live action can be Digital photgraphs too?
What we are pushing in here is for people to practice they composite skills.

#44

So which part of the rules should I ignore? And what can I do for the situation I am in?

Btw, how does digital photography work? sry for this question but I don’t know alot of compositing

#45

I never said to ignore a rule, but I see where you got that impression.
Because of that the legacy rule has been deleted.

You just need to need to have live action footage for you basis. What I said is that it can be a still.
There is a famous scene in Jurassic Park, where Doctor Grant is looking at the Brontosaurus for the first time. There is a part of that scene where he looks at the valley from the top of the hill and watches hundreds of dinosaurs.

All the backgrounds for that scene were done with one still camera.
You could do, for example, a flyover downtown area frozen. You just need to take photo stills to use as background plates.

Ok Thankyou very much!

#47

i have watched the movie the day after tomorw and i would actually wish to imput my small knowledge with anyone who wants to team up.

this looks tough tho
Good luck to all

#48

Cool.

Can I use photographs from cities to fill in the backgrounds.

Is it a rule that there must be a real person in the scene?

#49

Go ahead, feel free to use photos.
The idea is to do some composite work.

You cant do without people, but you have to comp at least one of your shots.

This sounds like an awsome challenge, being that we’re in the middle of summer and it’s over 100 degrees here (sacramento/davis, ca). A whole lot of compositing will have to be done, but i’m excited.

#51

You sir, have pointed out the core reason we are doing a winter challenge.

Who knows, we might do a “Summer in Bali” challenge in December.

Hello to all participants, I’m new to the FX challenges.

Any general rules on the lenght and resolution of the finished piece ?

#53

“It is Recommended that Final movies should be rendered at 320 x 240 or 640 x 480 in QuickTime* format (Sorenson Compression), but other resolutions and formats are allowed. * The animation format is open for discussion”

And you can make the sequence as long ass you want.

If you don’t have a digital video camera, or you don’t want to use stil;ls, you can always find free video footage online. Try Googling for video.
