Having pointed a number of engineering friends to these videos (they were impressed!) one noted that adding wheels to the trebuchet (in real life) added to the range. Apparently, allowing the device to translate, which moves the cg (in this case, “center of gravity”) makes the real world device more efficient.

I’d be curious if any of the simulations are up to the task of an experiment-- can you permit the trebuchet to translate, and see if the system reflects that observation? I suspect a lot of new data has to be added; by setting the trebuchet as fixed, you don’t need weight and so on. . .

still, its a great experiment at the intersection of the two CGs

Derby-Q Salano’s started out looking great, good camera angles too, but the impact kind of ruined it. I love the way the chains move on Cory’s entry, the impact is great too!

I most like the secondary movement - the ropes, and the trebuchet spending the last of its energy and momentum swing back and forth ever so slightly. This secondary motion adds so much life to it. Very nice.

Funny to see these Post Supporting Derby-Q With only one post. It’s pretty tight between Cory and Derby. :slight_smile:
