Reckon I’ll squeeze in some time to give the field cannon a go, with a freeform entry
CgTalk:FXWars! Cannon Fire! - HappyCalaveras
Haven’t had as much free time as I’d hoped to work on this one. Here’s a quick work in progress using Maya Fluids (DivX)
It’s a start, but still way too soupy to work. The size of the fluid container required to have the smoke travel even this far is already slowing things down, so I’ll be trying some more computer-friendly tests with sprites or cloud particles and see how that looks.
Managed to squeeze in a bit more time. I couldn’t bear to abandon Fluids - I love playing with them too much, so I just lowered the resolution. The render quality definitely suffers, but it’s good for hammering out the motion. With a bit more work on shading and dissipation, I think it’ll get there. I also did the old “hide the horizon” trick by slapping down a quick sculpted NURBS surface so renders will look a bit more interesting. If I can get the cannon firing sorted out soon enough, I’ll rain some destruction down on the tower! That would be a nice treat
Haven’t had time to do much beyond quick tweaks, and no time left to refine it any more so this will have to do. I had fun working on it, which was the whole point, so mission accomplished!
I spent about 20 hours total, using Maya with After Effects for a basic comp and fake shadows -
It is time to talk about the current challenge:
LESSONS LEARNED (Cannon fire): Lets TalK!
Would love to hear your input
