CgTalk Daily Sketch 839 NO TIME LIMIT "Frankenstein's Castle" NEW RULES!

#2

Is there any chance someone could post a little synopsis about the castle described in the Book? Of course we can take our own path on it… but it would be nice to have the ‘official’ description as a starting point. . Im gona be busy on this all night! LOL.

#3

this is pretty much the gist of it:

#4

ok, looks like I’m the first…

aproximately 1:45h in photoshop, including the time for making THIS photo-collage with some pictures I took this summer (from Krakow mainly, some other places too)… it was a great help, as I suck at drawing architecture and buildings…

maybe I should spend more time adding details…and I don’t like the trees much, but that’s it for today

#5

hope you enjoy this

its more comic style concept art

1,5h correl wacom

#6

EToby - cant see your image?

#7

Tried to make something believable yet fantastic.
2 hours. Photoshop.

#8

great work here
mine : 35min / PhotoshopCs2

#9

about 2 hours, photoshop and tablet

#10

if i get to do the 1 week modeling contest for frankenstein’s castle, im DEFINITELY using this one for the concept…

#11

1.5 Hrs in photoshop. Used 6 different photo resorces. and painted them all together, and changed all the lighting to night. Ill post the ref photos later. It may look too dark on some monitors… low-key is always a pain to do digitally.

#12

Waoo, great ambiant Codenothing, composition is good, and village is really well made.

#13

boo.

here's my concept - some good old-fashioned melodrama. 3hrs PS, original res about 2200x1800.

codenothing- great work!

#14

Great stuff, guys. I wanna try a different castle style. It’s actually just a very big screw. About 40-45 minutes. I’m too lazy to continue.

A monochromatic version

#15

awesome design, pipichu

#16

hmmm, quite happy with it, but its kinda uninspired…
About 4.5 hours, Photoshop, Intuos 3

Another half an hour.
Don’t know if its better with or without the bridge.
I think with the bridge in front, the feel for the deep cliffs gets lost somehow…

#17

not sure if this will help anyone but Geneva Switzerland is the town where all this took place in the Mary Shelly version, found some information about it

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geneva%2C_Switzerland

I also googled some images for you:

first ones a bit to large to post in the thread so heres the link [sorry i was lazy and didnt want to resize]

#18

audit - brilliant! totally captures the castle in my mind

pipichu - I love yours as well - very different but still seems perfect for Frankenstein!

#19

codenothing, I can’t see yours, and all I know is that it must be something worth to see!
…on the other hand I CAN see EToby’s…

EToby - a bit messy IMO, maybe if you had used thinner lines it would read more easily… but I liked the amount of details, the 1816 calendar is a nice touch, hehe…

Mats Gustaffson - did you use the photo of a building underneath? it looks very good, a bit like a factory, and it plays well…

Deevad - great shadows, great colors…

rapture - good job, it’s kind of new to see the castle in the sunlight… as a crit, the lack of windows/details make it look a bit like a sand castle

audit - WOW, and WOW again, amazing work

pipichu - great idea, and great details

Vyse-soa - very intelligent use of that tiled texture… I’m still not very sure how exactly did you do that…
