CgTalk Daily Sketch 760:THE NO TIME LIMIT SKETCH: "THE DARK"

#21

I went a different way than I usally would…

#22

Whatever is IN the dark, its always closer than you think.

10Mins perhaps? Tablet, PhotoshopCS

#23

augustus - I am not sure why but your drawing fits nicely.

daw - love the orignal style, creepy but also friendly.

BrittanyRichardson - you have got some good weight in the figure and
I like the use of purple on the blade.

#24

danielh68: Nice idea, great painting! I like this one.
InKraBid: This is scarying me … well done!
SpankTheMonk: I like the idea … but … I think you blurred it a little to much. I would like to see some more details to know what lies there
daw: Well done! Great image! I love this feeling!
May-lea: Great idea, reminds me of my own thoughts. I think her (?) legs are crazy … she seems to walk backwards but looks forward. I don’t get it
Louis.cho: Haha this is nice  To be REALLY original you could have made the eyes red
Kimded: Lovely creature! 4 eyes? Looks funny… great work!
Spiritt: Nice idea, my own thoughts never left earth. I think you could have blurred the ciry lights a little more … also the lights seem to be green?
kaylon: WOW! Nice work! It seems as if it wants to jump out of my monitor to eat me… great!
Mats Gustafsson: Well done! Looks great… but why purple?
reaver_ripper: Haha the grimm reaper walking under the moonlight. I think today we have often an old topic in the images  Good job!
FiYoG:Well … to me this looks like daytime … maybe a little darker? Anyway well done!
BrittanyRichandson: Cute girl. I like the bright - dark work you did. Maybe you could have made this also with her sword.
augustus: Looks great!
Ashton: Nice work! Good idea !
maya-3D: Nice monster. Can you paint the rest of it?
Cyanid: Great! I love the idea! You did a great job!
erilaz: Man that’s wonderfull. This looks as if you did it with a pencil  Great work!
Jeroen Stout: On the right, is there a person waiting? Great idea!
nards26: Very nice… only 7min? Awsome  I like it a lot!

Ok than here we go…
Today I had a little odysee (don’t know if this word excists in english)…
At the beginning I wanted to paint a ninja, thief, asassine or something of that kind. Somebody who stands in the shadows, hides himself and fears others. You know you can only see some shapes of his face, his eyes glows and his wapons shine while the moon shines on them. So I started doodling and ended with this:
(Photoshop, tablet, 25min)

A robot with red eyes standing somewhere… allright… funny … but not what I wanted. So I saved it and gave another try:
(Photoshop, tablet, 30min)

This was more what I wanted and I really like it. After a while a had an idea how I could give it a more dramatic touch:
(Photoshop, tablet, another 20min)

I can not tell you which one of the both I like more… I like them both in another way … please deside for yourself. They are like 2 different images for me.

#27

Photoshop, 1.5 hours.

#28

Damn, Thany… wonderful.

#29

I got a lil more excited about this drawing and took another 20 minutes on it.
thx for tips May_lea

“I am the Darkness. And I will not be denied”

Ok too much drama ehhehehe

I hope I could improve it a lil bit

#30

Thank you! ^^ bows

ok, here’s the pre-sketch+final pic overlayed:

She’s walking crab-like, a bit like karatekas do in freestyle sparring, sort of back stance, but in movement on this picture. She’s already transferring the weight from her back leg to her front one. Shoulders always facing forward. If anybody else has done karate before they can confirm. The back foot should face more forwards, but I broke mine ages ago and I can’t place it correctly anymore. I always draw it inconsciously in my drawings.

Trunks, I definitely like your second entry better :). Sorry I stole your idea for the first. - but hey, that’s what rogues do :stuck_out_tongue: -

And with Thany’s entry, we have the proof there’s another alien sketching freak posting on this forum… (this is a compliment :))

Glad I could help :).
Have you ever wondered why the dark always have something glowing? Like his eyes or his hand. I’m sure it’s for extra effect, but I bet the dark would more suck and anihilate light out of things rather than emmiting light himself. “The dark wants everything to be darker”. That’s why I even considered submitting a picture all black in the first place  But that’d been too easy :). So yes for the dark to radiate darkness. True, you’ll need a little light to see the dark. -yeah I know, paradoxal-

I’d say… the Dark closes his fist radiating darkness, and dark clouds cover the sky and zoom towards the moon to cover it (just not full moon, too). Just a few rays of light manage to slip through and highlight the Dark’s back. Very dramatic

Ok, ok I shut up, it’s your idea after all  I the sky’s darkness better now though ^^

#32

Photoshop, about 30 minutes.

#33

lol! dark has to be darker! I´m supposed you´re rihgt about it. There´s a big cliche about darkness emmanating light. And if you come to think of it, there´s no reason: If I was a dark entity, i would have not a single flicke! Hmm, well I am another victim of cliches =(. Just like drawing cupids with arrows shaped as hearts (bad example?) hehehhehe

But I see your point. I sure would like to see your version of that in a sketch ^^

#34

about 1.5 hours, painter IX

#35

Pipichu, you need to illustrate a kid’s book. I’d buy it.

#36

33 min ps

#37

A random character I made, done in Photoshop, I think it took 30 minutes
Yeesh, speedpainting is something that I need to practice, the pictures look pretty neat here

#38

Thanks! I actually made a 64 page children’s book for my final project. It’s probably too long(lots of text) for a children’s book. I’m gonna try to shop it around though.

#39

Thanks for the explanation May-lea! I think now I got it. Her left leg (seen from her!) confused me. Now I understand it

Wonderfull work all the new ones.
