Airflow,
I think the anatomy has more in common with the lion right now - nose-wise.
http://www.pbase.com/arnomeintjes/image/59652536
Tigers’ noses are much more defined in comparison.
You might want to look at the proportions on the head…the snout looks short to me and there are a few other things if you compare them to some tiger images. Pbase is a great reference source.
Hi, Sergio. Yes, I am collecting some images to start the old illustration thread. I love old magazine illustration, and am glad to find others who have this interest as well. Lolo, may I put your lovely example in my thread?
Hello, everyone else who has dropped in.
Cris
Thanks Cris for the links! ![]()
… now all my photos look like crap
Oh my, the Greek nut and his bouncing smilies…
Hey Airflow, nice start mate.
Cris is right though, looks more like a female lion to me.
Thanks for the crits guys, I was gonna fix it up in MB but decided to do a bit of tidying in Maya first I think wit it missing the mane it will look more lion like, But Iwas working from Tiger pics, Its pretty weird ot ended up looking feminin, dunno why but it looks ok on my laptop but not my crt monitor… update soon… BTW Chris? how could you… posting an art deco 2d thread when Im soooo busy lol, Ill have to see if I can make some time to have a play.
update

my laptop screen could be the prob, it widescreen, Ill finish this on a desktop.
That’s looking better…the distinctive fur ruff and markings will really sell this. Hairless, it still looks rather lionish…are you going to take it to the furred stage?
Cris
Not at the moment, for my creature reel anll that matters is good topology, good uvs and good displacment modeling. So fur and textures are going to have to wait till after xmas. I have a project Im working on lined up for the duration of the holidays…
Nice pics ^^
I’ve got an update announcement
I put another entry in my Blog; go see it here;

Hope y’all like it
Cheers, gotta get back to work…
Hell, I didnt think it was that bad! I killed the thread again, quickly change the subject… how bout that sky today huh, talk about blue ^^
Heya Airflow, can you post some wires of your lion? Nice work so far! But I think the loops might need adjusting, and I did a quick overpaint, hope you don’t mind, see what you think.

Nice overpaint, but its supposed to be a tiger… Lol.
I must admit tho it does look kinda like a lion, I think without the mane you cant really tell them apart except for the jowls and tip of the nose… wires are gonna be usless, I exported from zbrush, so its got somthing like 1540000 polys or somthing even bigger. Nice head btw, sss needs tweaking, you should paint a control map… good textures tho.
Lions and tigers are very very similar, there’s hardly a difference, so it doesnt really matter. Anyway, you shouldnt use a ZBrush mesh as your export, you should export a lowpoly and render with or without smooth and with Displacement mapping instead of the bulk polymesh with which you cannot do anything at all…
Im aware of that, I just did it this way because its quicker, Im modeling for my reel, so all Im showing is the base mesh and final…
ok, latest thing for my reel, amazon. Needs work on the cloth, legs and feet/sandals I think.

Wim, nice model and texture…again.
Hairless, they are closer, but the tiger does have differences on the nose from the lion.
Cris
Robert, ya snuck one in on me while posting.
With nothing for size comparison, she looks a little short…guess I think of longer limbs and torso for an amazon. Nice modeling, though.
Cris
Well, I would suggest to put more work in it, get it right before you plant it on your portfolio. I agree with Cris, the proportions looks odd and you should go for an overall smoother definition before adding detail, and when you do, make sure you add it everywhere.
Chris Im going for a more realistic turkish womans physique, which with the libians and some asians made up the real amazon tribe of warrior women, and not the long limbed valkyrie type.
I see where you’re going…it was just hard to gauge when seen with nothing to scale her.
Cris
Hey all. Long time no post.
Here’s some beautiful pictures of Japan – specifically, Nikko in Tochigi prefecture.
I now have internet at my house, so hopefully I can make these posts more frequently.
If you’re curious, I have lots more where that came from at my flickr feed: http://flickr.com/photos/jashugan/
