I don’t think it’s cheating. How do you cheat at a look that you want to produce? If I want my picture to have a coppery sheen and I produce a picture that has a coppery sheen, how is that cheating? Isn’t “perspective” cheating because it fools the eye into thinking there is depth in a 2 dimensional picture? Isn’t then all digital art cheating? Ug, don’t get me started…but your picture and technique are awesome.

I think that this is one of the great advantages with working digitally over traditional mediums. You have all kinds of tools that allow you to create the different effects that you want.

I can see how some purists might object to the advanced tools, but I call that hogwash because where do you stop? Is the smudge tool ok? Can I select and move something? How about layers? And certainly layer blending, effects, filters, and levels are out of the question . . . right?

Personally, I feel that the artist has all the right in the world to use every tool that the application provides in order to create the final piece. Otherwise, what’s the point in working digitally?

I’ll join in Therry, wasnt going to post this, but I’ve been enjoying working on this… Getting my exotique copy and reading yet another article by the hand of our own Linda, has gotten me more then inspired… just for the fun of it (and the exercise), I tried doing a selfportrait, but this time, I tried it the way Linda goes about it, first put down the colors, then the detail… I normally just start adding detail and end up with a detailled but unballanced and pointless composition. I did use photo reference, but I tried to get the colors just right before I’m going to add the detail, this is my second 2D drawing, so please be gentile! The eyes mess me up, so I’m waiting a bit with those :slight_smile:

And the hits just keep on coming, spend a few hours trying to get my eyes at least good enough for a base… dunno, plenty of work needed I’m sure… That’ll be it for today… need sleep, work tomorrow… ugh.
