CGSociety Photo / WIP Exchange

#1

Guys / Gals,

I thought it might be an interesting experiment if we had a rule where every time you posted, you had to post either a photograph (doesn't matter what of ~ yourself, your workstation, your pets, et al) or a WIP. Basically, your picture is your passport here. :)

No picture, no post. (See exceptions below).

  THE RULES:

            The rules are simple. :)

  1. Every time you post a comment, you must post a photograph (it doesn't have to be serious) or a WIP or finished piece of artwork that you are working on or have completed (it's okay if artwork has been posted elsewhere).

  2. Of course, any text can accompany an image ~ comments on others' work, your own explanations of your photos, etc. But it can't be something from the web, and it can't be something that you've posted before on another CGS thread.

3. NO PICTURES FROM THE WEB are allowed. It must be your own photo / or a photo that is personal to you.

      4. YOU MAY SUBSTITUTE A CRITIQUE FOR A PHOTO. :)

  5. Someone who is replying to a question concerning their work need not post an image.

6. Welcome messages need not be accompanied by an image.

            What say ye? :)

For example, this is my first post, so here is a 15 Minute Sketch which I did for the Sketchathon thread: (actually, this is longer than 15 I think)

           Neat thread tie~in:

Here’s a brilliant thread tie~in kids:

If you guys all participated daily in this thread:

      [I5 Minute Sketchathon - Thread 2: Sketches](http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=295498)

which uses this thread for Reference images:

      [I5 Minute Sketchathon - Thread 1: Reference](http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=298699)

Then you would daily have a lot of images to post to the thread you are in now. :)

            Cheers,

            ~Rebeccak

Hmmm… it may require some heavy self-restraint from us all to not degenerate into “The thread” but i’ll bite.

I took this photo a couple of years ago at a shrine for miscarried children near Yokohama. A beautiful place where every statue represented a child lost. There were thousands of them…

#3

Not really a WIP as the master file got deleted by ‘accident’… it was frustrating me! I couldn’t figure out how to get rid of that pinching around the mouth and the eyes are freaky. Tips?
It’s my first 3d model…in max, 3 hours…

EDIT: Martin, that photo is beautiful. Haunting, but beautiful. I’d like to hear more of your stories and see your photos from Japan.

#4

Cool pic Martin!

And now comes my horrible confession ~ I, like every 3D novice...have created a chess set.
The shame!!! This is from a few years back:

All Lemog textures baby! :bounce: This is from before when I knew THE Lemog.

P’Clip ~ cool! Martin is a Max guy…I’m sure he can lend you a hand.

You guys are now going to be privileged enough to see so much of my bad 3D crap, you will wish that you had never heard of CGTalk… :bounce:

Cheers, amidst embarrassment,

Hi, do we have to post a picture EVERY time we make a comment, what if it just want to make a constructive criitic? Well just to follow rules…

EDIT: I took off the hotdog image because it isnt a WIP… this is a snapshot of my 3d animation. When I figure out how to upload video I will post the entire thing.

Erilaz oh wow that is so sad.

#6

Now that will be difficult for you GoogleUberBot…

I don’t know…

Anyway, since this is a wip thread

Good stuff, so far guys!

Let’s see how many people will join the fun…

#7

Sweet, Marlon!

If you guys have a better idea for any other kinds of more constructive threads, please feel free to toss around ideas / create the thread, and run with it. I think our energy has been so focused on the Bonanza thread, we’ve forgotten what we’re all about.

Here is a craptastic piece of a render I did back in the day:

The serene beauty of Kyoto makes me want to retire there. I’m absolutely serious about that. I thought there would never be another place I would love as much as Australian soil, but I was very wrong.
This shrine was across a valley in the mountains. It appears quite small in the photo, but it actually towered above me when I reached it:

#9

Martin,

That is completely beautiful! I have been to Kyoto and Tokyo once…way back when I was a wee kid of 13, and on a trip with my folks who had meetings there. It rocked. I’ll look for some photos at home when I visit them.

Gosh, this stuff is so old…my 2nd Maya class…

Textures by Lemog (sorry, Lolo)

Cheers,

wow art2, you already raised the bar
Rebeccak I like this WIP Idea… … what is that thing?

this is just from CGS daily sketch avatar snowball wars 10 minutes to make

#11

Ines,

It’s from my second Maya animation for school, based on the life of Joesph Cornell. I love his collage work. So I kind of loosely based a piece off of that. In each of the cabinets is a construction loosely based on a Cornell piece. It turned out okay.

A little embarrassing though, in front of total CG pros like Dimi et al…

Cheers,

#12

Oh yeah I know what that is. I really like it I think you did a good job… I have seen the entire animation and it was very artistic

I was referring to your second image. the one before this one.

What is that supposed to be?

#13

Beautiful stuff guys. Marlon, loving that thigh-work on the painting! Stunning shading.
On to Vietnam, where the spooky shrines of the marble mountains prevail:

#14

Ines made a good point, and I’ve changed the first post to include this rule:

EDIT: YOU MAY SUBSTITUTE A CRITIQUE FOR A PHOTO.

Someone who is replying to a question concerning their work need not post an image.

Marlon ~ AWESOME work ~ I love the matte colors and the gun metal gray. What is the inspiration behind this?

Cheers,

#15

Martin,

That looks almost painted.

Ines,

That was an engine thingy I did back in the day…not very good, but I tried.

Cheers,

~Rk

#16

Miss Kimmel, there were no photos or WIP in those last two posts. (EDIT: Noticed your new rules)
Thanks for the comments on my photography guys. Most of these are happy accidents.

Creep through the grass and foliage to witness the ruin and erosion of a civilisation lost…

#17

Rebeccakah yes an engine thats what I thought. Though it has some organic shapes to it right? like the two purple things makes me thing of ovaries… that is a neat idea. Dont call your render crapastic because I like it  I really like renders of machines with all their parts and pieces. I think I like 3D objects and enviorments more than actual characters… but I like more characters than objects and enviorments in 2d. I know I am weird.

Erilaz I know what you mean. I went to Kyoto last year and it was beautiful… Nara was also like this. I would love to go back to Japan soon. I love your pictures… Im going to dig my album and see if I can find some of mine.

#18

great idea. love it . ok from the start

rebecca. great figure. someday i will come to this level  . great work as i said to u personally in the modelling

erilazz love the photos . steady hard , great contrast and DOF

paperclip can u show us the wires. i think it has to be tris or n-gons and thats why u have the pinching. try to modell in quads to make it smoother ans apply afterwards a meshsmooth to see how its going to look. also for construction ( like WIP things) i use a blinn for the mesh so i can turn ans move the object and see if there are continuity problems or pinching because u have that specular highlight .

InesD . look look a killed ines by snowballs in the snow : nice sketch

Art2. great concept sketch there  amazing work

this are the two projects i am working on right now.

A pen - usb that a friend of mine has for real . i said to him that i wanted to modell it so this is how it looks rendered. I have modelled more things about it and i will post an update of the wires and the layout. takes too long to render in my pc.

The second one is an avatar i got the idea for rebecca. so i am making Marving the Marsian.

#19

Martin,

LOL! Ines had the good idea to modify the rules to include the following:

EDIT: YOU MAY SUBSTITUTE A CRITIQUE FOR A PHOTO.

Someone who is replying to a question concerning their work need not post an image.

Hehe. It’ll make things easier, I think.

Beautiful image!

Ines,

Thanks hon. Yeah actually it’s ironic as I don’t know much at all about modeling people. Something for the future I guess.

A closeup of a drawing I did not long ago…I was practicing how to demo, LOL…

Aggie,

Thanks.

Your first image is totally beautiful ~ I love it! I can almost feel the weight of the object. Very cool.

And I’m happy to have contributed to the second, at least help with the idea…that was fun! :bounce:

Cheers,
