Gotta love The Young Ones.

I’m fairly new to pencil sketching (and any sketching for that matter) so any pointers are more than welcome.

45 minutes, Rick from The Young Ones

As a side note, if you like Rik Mayall, you have to check out Don’t Fear Death . He does the voice and I think it’s fantastic.

Apparently I didn’t get the intended reference, so I’m doing this one literally. I guess that’s the fun part about short theme titles like this!

Uh, drpetter, that one’s so great! I’m glad we both miss the reference, but it matters not at all.

I’ve had some genuine fun with this one and finally broke my 20min doodle streak, whereby the entire background took 12 minutes, haha, man, it’s so easy with verve.

Nice work everybody.
Mine starteds ok but in the middle everything went so so… but I think I kinda saved the work into “ok” level in the end with colors and just strong brush work…

I think I made too boring angle and composition too. Should try more harder next time

Quite the variety. A forever young Vampiress. On time too, although the blood dress could use a lot more time. Maybe some roses would be nice. Mostly Painter.

Welkyna: Pretty! I’m trying to decide if I should read the white spot on her lips as a reflection or maybe a sneaky canine glimpsing through. Perhaps both? Very elegant rendering of the hair, for such a simplified mass!

As for the other pictures, I find it curious that the same environmental theme of green bushland with water/river keeps recurring (not quite sure if I can find water in Sazem’s entry, but perhaps with some imagination a pond)

Kev3D: Not bad at all for a portrait sketch. The eyes are a little bit large and I’d probably increase the distance between nose and mouth. Also he would turn out hunched/neckless if you continued adding shoulders at the level hinted at by the loose lines below. From googling reference images, I’d say you nailed the scruffy hairdo and overall wild expression

Hey Welkyna, that’s a very cool entry. Love the feel of it, has a plausibility to it as real life portrait. Sensual interpretation, too. Great job! :arteest:

As for the landscape themes, well, it’s quite easier to doodle organic shapes than architectural elements, I believe, although I have done that quite a few times, too. The title “young ONES” has to me a certain animal tone to it, which also suggests nature. Youth itself is something that indicates aging, which also far easier relates to a living environment, at least in terms of simplicity for a painting subject. But now I want to think of a different context, too, hahahaha… damn you, drpetter, damn you! :banghead: :bounce::wip:

Thank you both. I think the highlight/fang was a happy accident. I wanted a fang, but didn’t there there was room to squeeze.
& I agree. I think youth = spring = green!/nature. For myself, I would like to work more on landscapes. I love the depth you guys can portray.

Thanks for the feedback DrPetter… looking at it now, the eyes look way too big!
