50 minutes I think - lost track of time…

40 minutes

After 40 minutes

After 2 hours

Wish I could detail the dragon a bit more. I got too caught on the landscape:

Nice job Xia, you’re flooding these forum topics with great images!

It’s a small matter but I’m not a fan of you putting, in this example, your precise time taken, signature and title on the actual image. It completely throws my eye around and I can’t look at the image properly. I would prefer it typed underneath in normal text…

Miked08 - I think I’m noting the specifics of detail regarding exact time-frames to the smallest detail including the topic title because I’ve forgotten that I should have saved all of those information for myself and not others. I imagined myself as an objective observer and totally agree with you.

Because the first thing I look at is: the title lol, and then the other little scribbles that took the attention away from the painting. Thank you for your suggestion. I just posted the California Fever piece with the same scene-stealing set-up but that will be the last lol I promise.

Your Zombie King piece is one of your best entries so far:)

Cool - glad my suggestion made sense

I am beginning to improve at digital painting, albeit very slowly. I’ve dabbled in 3D modelling and picked up a perfectionist attitude which doesn’t help sketch painting because you need to move quickly. In that zombie king painting I tried to go for your style (which is rather brilliant by the way!) but still have a huge way to go. I could be on this forum for months…

With the Zombie King piece I see a tremendous improvement in it already (going for my style or not–you’ve achieved something altogether different in a good way and unique from my style ), even here on this topic of Road To Nowhere; I can immerse myself easily into the moods you’re conveying.

Lol I agree; a perfectionist attitude is like a mental ball and chain. When you sketch quickly and under pressure; you begin to prioritize the important fundamental elements in the composition. I think that’s why I’m here; to learn how to prioritize the main fundamentals in the quickest time, then detail later.

I think when you master a skill, it comes to you easily. You do it without having to think too hard about it. I’m on the same boat as you (lots to go lol). So I’m stickin’ around until there is no more interruption in my flow to where I know I have hit from the initial sketch to the finish of the painting. No more hit or miss. More hits.

Just downloaded Blender and got scared by the learning curve lol. Cheers to future sketches:)
