CGChallenge XXVII: TEN - yakonusuke

Azazel, yeah of course, colors are coming right now! And thanks!

I’ll post the color steps all at once, it made no sense to me to show them all seperately since they everything changes drastically from step to step and didn’t represent what I had in mind for the image. But the last one shows more or less where it’s heading.

But everything might still change a lot. This approach differs much from my usual paintings, so I’m not quite sure about the individual elements and solutions, and am still experimenting a lot. Also the image is very WiP in many parts.

Very fresh and dynamic style… I can’t wait to see the final image!

I don’t really like the masks idea… previous was imho better, maybe because it’s not obvious they are masks. Maybe if the girl had the mask pulled back, revealing the face, it would work better.

Other crit would be the upper right corner - the very hot white car roof is distracting a bit. Same withe the barn, that wall is bit too bright IMO.

I do love the way you defined the surfaces, metals, car paint, dirt, they are all very nicely differentiated.

Anyway, keep it up :wip:

valeoart, thank you!

azazel, funny, I discarded the masks idea last evening after I talked to my artist friend. we came to the same conclusion, well in fact I did, my friend was no fan of this idea from the beginning. I initially thought they would give more depth to the protagonists, but on this scale it just doesn’t work well. Maybe also my way of implementing them wasn’t good enough, but I won’t try to find that out.
Also, the car roofs are less shiny now, but because I noticed the police car roofs on my reference are not that white, but a bit blueish. But I see your point and must agree. I need to put focus more on the couple, and draw back the attention from the background. Thank you for the input!

Hi,

This is just a general message to everybody in the forums to remember to upload their deliverables to the Challenge engine (http://challenge.cgsociety.org/ten). Only 2 days to go!

Please ignore this message if you already have.

Good luck, Mike

Thank you, Stefan!

And another step. Still haven’t touched the main characters much, yet. But them and other elements that help the story, which haven’t been even sketched, are due tomorrow. Last push!

And now to the final image! http://challenge.cgsociety.org/ten/entry/yakonusuke/final_image/10004640
Considering that I was not very fond of the Challenge theme in the beginning, I am quite satisfied with my result. Hope you enjoyed the process and the final image.
I call it a day now
