CGChallenge XXVII - TEN - The Number of Blues (TeamVideo)


Hi Everyone,

finaly we have found a title for our animated short - “The Number of Blues”
Its Neo Noir Style, so we wanted something classic.

You did not see much of our work the last weeks, we were very busy producing assets, rigging and putting everything together, into something we can complete for you before deadline.
But now it’s the time to show you some more stuff and we hope you like our idea!

40ies style, equiped with everything a badass privat eye needs, mostly bourbon :wink:

this time I brought you a close shot of the Blues Detective!
You can see the office environment from the sketches in the backgound. there is still missing some glow and volumelight but we are getting somewere :slight_smile:
the style with the ink lines in the character texture turned out to be quite fitting vor Noir. what do you think?

This time I can show you another environment for our noir short. This old staircase was planned in the very beginning. we liked the hypnotic feeling it would produce when the camera flys toward the skylight!

Hey, we are back. Today’s update is all about our main character rig. straight from the maya viewport, this is the detective.

We are using Human IK (which so far has proven to be the most wonderful piece of software ever known to man… not :wink: ) with custom parts for the fingers and and a completly custom face rig.

Since it’s cold and rainy outside our detective even has a stylish lethercoat and as every detective who takes himself seriously (or archaeologist for that matter) he has got an awesome hat too.



A small bonus update, this is a frame from the first completly final composed shot of our video.
It shows the detective on the street while discussing the case with his partner frank.


I like the style you are going with. You have a lot of work to do, but with the speed you are going I feel you guys are going to pull off a great looking entry. :thumbsup:
