CGChallenge XXVII - TEN - Rich Chatfield

Sup all. Excited to be in the TEN!

The video is going to be a tribute to CGS and I’m dedicating the work to the many outstanding artists and 3Ders of CGS who have inspired me over the past ten years.

Rough Story Idea:

The video will take place at a carnival/fair setting, (Think small theme park) with the warm fresh smell of buttery pop-corn and sweetcotton candy hangs heavily in the air. In the background you can hear thedistance screams of roller-coaster riders, the ringing of buzzers & bellsfrom the games of chance to win a prize and of course the child entrancingnotes of music from a carousel going around and around and around…

Enter stage rightt - the main character of our story, who consequently is also the villain. Meet “Blaine”

He came to the park today for a chance to look at the new attraction they added just yesterday called the “CG Shot”.

We watch as he makes his way through the park to arrive athis destination.

Blaine looks upon an old fashion shooting gallery with a trophy on top and a ridiculous sign that reads:

“Shoot TEN and WIN!”

He steps up and looks over the targets inside to see 9targets and one special one that looks like the trophy on top of the shooting gallery. He smiles as reaches for the rifle…

Little does Blain know the bizarre and surprise twist that’s about to happen…

Looks like a very good start; you already have most of the scene done! I’m curious to see more. One question I have is that you have some horse models you credit; do you know if you’re actually allowed to use models that (though attributed) you did not create? Good to make sure you know the answer to that earlier rather than later :slight_smile: Looking good overall!

Yep. When I loaded them up, I stipulated I would replace them with my own work. I just used them for my concepts. Everything I am doing up to this point has really just been concept work, layout, scale, initial lighting, etc…

My understanding of the rules is that you can post up anything for concepts including inspirational type work, but your final submission need to be your own original work. The exceptions would be textures and things like that but you still have to credit the source if you use those.

I did want to make sure though I gave proper credit, even though they will not be in the final submission.

PS: Just finished up skinning and rigging my main character and will post a short walk test animation this evening some time.

Well I got Blaine skinned and rigged. First time skinning and rigging a character for animation. I can see I have a few issues such as his arms swinging too much and his pace is a bit too slow for a normal walk. Over all though I’m happy with it.

I’ll probably spend time over thanksgiving holidays working on some basic animations with him and start fine tuning my storyline to lock down my camera angles and shots for phase one of the video, which is Blaine walking through theme park to get to the CG Shot - Shooting Gallery.
