Hmm, I remember to have read a review of one of those movies in the Polish SF Magazine “Nowa Fantastyka” a while ago. It actually made me quite curious, but I just don’t see a way I could get to see the movie where I’m currently living (Germany). Especially a version I could understand, which means it needed to have German, Polish or English subtitles (I learned Russian at school but it’s so long ago, today I could not even order a vodka in Russian  ).

I think there are two books the movie(s?) are based on, with Day Watch being the sequel or something? …

I’ve seen it here in a cinema in the uk (russian audio with english subs) and was quite impressed by it. very different movie, the only thing I didn’t like was that a big part of the story was wrapped up in about 30 seconds.

keep your eyes open for it, it’s definitly worth a look. I seriously doubt the english remake will be any good though. the story can be summed up in a few words (good vs evil), and that’s most likely what will be left of the original in the end. it’s the lovely way they shot it and the slightly different approach to visuals they took that make it so good.

edit: totally forgot, the subs were actually included in the visuals (kinda), like words fading out behind people or melting away… so it’s definitly worth a look.

I’ve only seen the Russian DVD of it, with english subtitles. The subtitles aren’t the special ones that are supposed to be in the US Theatrical version. But the movie is really cool, and very original. The CG isn’t the greatest, but it doesn’t matter that much when the story is cool and stylized. I guess my one main complaint is the video game sequence. But more cause it’s felt awkward than anything. But that’s a minor complaint. I’m really anxious to see Daywatch, especially after seeing the trailer for it. It’s supposed to be a trilogy, and I believe they are working on the third part right now.
All in all, I definitely recommend it.

I thought they decided not to remake it and just release the subtitled version? No need to remake it, cause it’s cool the way it is. I hate all these remakes of already good movies.

From what I understand, it’s a Trilogy (Nightwatch, Daywatch, and a 3rd title I’m unsure of, possibly Duskwatch, although don’t hold me to that).

After watching an english subtitled version of the movie, I am really looking forward to the 2nd movie. If it’s anything like the first, it’ll be very cool. I’m going to hold my opinion on the english remake, to see who will be directing it, and who will be the stars, etc.

I do agree with the video game sequence, it felt a little too fake to be serious, as well as being kinda nasty graphics (original Tekken anyone??). Having said that though, the Raven cyclone was very cool!
