centers of joined crvs

#1

So far I’m liking Rhino. I had more hate than love when I was learning Maya, so this is good

I read a bit of the sticky on the little tricks and shortcuts. Awesome thread.

My most common problem thus far is snapping to the center of joined curves. After doing some ArrayPolar and trimming to get a rim-esque design, I need to snap to the center to create a circle that encapsulates the design. The center osnap doesn’t seem to work, and I know there’s a way… this sort of thing must come up all the time in industrial design.

…or does the order of operations in terms of curve creation make a difference in the workflow here?

One way to tackle this problem is to select a set of curves/objects (doesn’t matter if joined or not), then go to Analyze, Bounding Box, pick your coordinate system ( I usually just hit W for world), hit enter and then you end up with a square/box that surrounds all the objects. You should be able to then use the center osnap on the bounding box.

Very nice, thank you!
