CCP Custom Control Pad - dominate keyboard shortcuts !

#25

Yep, done that about 18 times. In fact clicking Quit is the only way to disappear the server popup. By the way I am on Windows 7.

I will post screenshots later, they might help. Thanks for your support.

Uhm…

to make the popup disappear, you should click on the “port” field of the pop up, hold the mouse down > drag the mouse out of the pop up > release mouse button, pop up should disappear without the need to quit the server. We are currently working on a fix for this.

About your connection problem, are you by any chance using “Ultramon” to handle multiple displays ? (we found from another user that it according to how Ultramon is setted up the “accept connection” alert window doesn’t display correctly.

I tried the Alt with “lock alt” switch to rotate and pan the view port with the maya layout you guys created but I could get it to work.

Have you or know of anyone that has got the Alt with “lock alt” switch to rotate and pan the view port?

thanks

In our studio 2 artists use Maya with CCP every day, the layout for maya was made by them, and the “alt switch” works for them. Investigating what your issue could be. What version of windows are your using ?

Sounds good  Thanks!

So the idea of the switch command is to act like the users holding a specific keep down?

The switch is not working on Mavericks and Maya 2013 as well as nuke 7 that’s all I’ve tried so far.

I’m glad to hear that the switch is working for you guys so at least you have it in mind because that’s crucial yeah?

Do you have anyone that has got the switch command button working on a Mac?
Because it’s not just alt button, the switch doesn’t seem to working on any key on mac.

Did the Maya users on PC have to do anything special to get the switch to work?

Also I’m wondering how you guys duplicate layouts to slightly alter them.

What I’ve done is put current layouts in new folders and then rename them that seems to work okay but not very intuitive also it would be nice to quickly switch between layouts and not have to go into the side menu is that possible?

Thanks so much for your support.

Great thanks for reporting this, you are right, it is a BUG with the mac version of the application
. We definitely recognise that as an important function so expect a fix very soon.

To move layouts you can either use the “Save to” button in the layout browser panel (which will save the currently open layout in to the currently open folder).

About layout switching, you can swipe with 2 fingers (left to right or right to left) to cycle among the layouts in a specific folder. Also, “Automatic layout switching” tied to a foreground application on Mac / Pc currently works only among layouts in the same folder. (what we do is create folders for “workflows” (example : Maya, Photoshop, Illustrator in the same folder, at that point auto layout switching works perfectly)

We are testing new ways to optimise navigation and switching, and all suggestions are more than welcomed.

Thanks again for reporting this and especially for your patience.

Oh you can just use two fingers to swipe between layouts that’s great I’ll try that.

I was wondering if you guys ever thought of adding a higher level control of programming for the app?

Right now I’m in the middle of using Python scripts to create hot keys for the apps I’m planning on using with your app and I was wondering if we could get access to the script files in your app and tweak things at a text level?

For example if I wanted to create a layout for a character in maya and then duplicated and then quickly swap out a few hot keys for another character Layout, i could do that in a text document a lot faster than the UI. You know what I mean?

I plan On duplicating a lot of layouts and just changing the hot keys, so having access to those in a text document would be a very handy, streamline workflow.

It’s great to hear you guys are using this in a studio environment, all the best tools come from real productions.

Thanks for getting on to the switch with Mac, I’m really looking forward to using this in our studio.

Yes, many ideas about it, a few tests, not much we can share about it yet… Suggestions and request are welcomed.
Thanks to our game projects, we plan to extend CCP to allow very advanced interfaces on mobile device controlled by a PC/Mac application or game. API will always be public so that other developers or plugin makes can take advantage of it.

For example if I wanted to create a layout for a character in maya and then duplicated and then quickly swap out a few hot keys for another character Layout, i could do that in a text document a lot faster than the UI. You know what I mean?

At the moment you can export your layouts (from iTunes, or emailing them to you via the “upload” button, you can change the email address there). Layouts are in xml format, not very readable at the moment
we plan to improve a lot the layout file format to allow just what you suggested, but you can start toying with it if you will

Thanks for getting on to the switch with Mac, I’m really looking forward to using this in our studio.

Apart from the Maya artists the rest of the studio uses mac (me included), so we where almost ashamed by the bug
. Fix is tomorrows priority.

#33

I was referring to someone prior to that post thinking it to be iphone only.

#34

I can export to iTunes but I don’t see an email option after pressing the upload button, it just says “Layout Exported” cancel or replace buttons. Is there another place to put in the email?

Thanks

#35

No, I only have one monitor and I can’t find any reference to Ultramon on the computer.

#36

Could it be your firewall / antivirus blocking incoming connections ? At the moment, firewall / antivirus is the only thing it comes to our minds it could cause what you are describing. We are still investigating, but if you can, give a look at you firewall rules. (or to make a fast test, disable firewall and antivirus and see if it changes something).
Thanks for your patience

Just near the “Export layout” button in the “layout settings” panel, you should seen a little wireframe globe icon with a “+” sign. That should be to submit layouts to our central server, but it works creating a mail formatted for us. You can change the email address to yours and ignore the info file.

#37

Great I got the export to work thanks.

You’re right about the XML file being pretty much unreadable, I look for a translator but I couldn’t find one. This isn’t a big deal to get readable text but in the future definitely something I would like to have.

You created an app that will literally replaced my keyboard with something way way more advanced as soon as the switch works.

I have a feeling that this app might actually even replace the mouse/pen tablet as well but I haven’t figured out how that might be possible yet, has anyone at your studio mention that possibility as well having the app as the only interface to the computer?

For example having a section of the layout dedicated to a trackpad like controller that could move the mouse on the screen something like that maybe?

Or using some of the joystick controllers to control the mouse have you guys done that?

#38

Trackpad is coming decently soon with an update
., would you care to enter our beta program for CCP ?

#39

Sure I’d love to enter the beta program.

#40

The CCP server programme cant start cause it cant start the Bonjour service on my laptop, win7 64bit. During the install it noted I have a later version of bonjour already installed…:frowning:

Edit: Nevermind, uninstalled Bonjour and reinstalled server app, works OK now, hope I didnt break some other app running bonjour :frowning:

#41

Yikes. You are kidding, I hope.

Ever tried to model on a laptop trackpad?
Sheer horror.

#42

actually, since my first macBook pro (with the awesome trackpad) i’ve been using the mouse always less
Actually haven’t used a mouse if not for gaming in the last year. If i really need more precision (but usually it’s for photoshop only) i use a Intuos . But i never do organic modelling…

#43

I don’t do a whole lot of modeling and if I was doing serious modeling I probably get a cinq.

The main thing that I’ll be using CCP for is character animation.

I see real potential in the most efficient character animation workflow possible with this CCP app.

I envision having quick hot keys for character controls and perhaps a section of the iPad where I can potentially use one finger for translate x two fingers for translate y three fingers for translate z moving them up and down to move control handles and space maybe.

I’ve been dying to get rid of the whole follow a little arrow workflow in character animation for years now and this is finally a reality because of this app.

There are so many different jobs that we do in a 3d application now so I think we need multiple tools to work on various tasks.

I’ve seen so little innovation with user interaction as far as most keyboard and mouse goes. The iPad has opened my eyes to much more efficient comfortable workflows but of course the iPad is not really a production tool for many areas.

The keyboard and mouse workflow hasn’t changed since the beginning of computers, except for pen tablets, but come on we haven’t done anything and this is finally something to get excited about.

The keyboard configuration that we pre-much have to get on a hardware keyboard is the keyboard that was designed to make typing inefficient so that typewriters wouldn’t get tripped up.

Why couldn’t we have something like an iPad where each person creates their own keyboard and interactive buttons for whatever they’re using, makes total sense.

The idea of having one keyboard for all tasks doesn’t make any sense to me.

I also excited about the possibility of gestures.

One finger means this two fingers means that three fingers means something else rotating my thumb with my index finger means this. We have 10 fingers we could have 10 different gestures which could very quickly trigger so many different commands.

Doesn’t mean I’ll never use my hardware keyboard and mouse and pen tablet but for creative tasks we need creative workflows and what better way to create a workflow specific for a creative task then creating a specific personal interface.

This CCP app works in my philosophy that everyone should learn programming even just a little bit.

It would be like moving to a new country and not learn the language.

We use these computers all day but we don’t bother to talk to them at a higher level it doesn’t make any sense.

We expect programmers to know what we’re thinking but everyone’s an individual everyone works differently and everyone should create their own user interfaces.

Have you ever shown somebody application like maya for the first time with the default user interface presented?

They completely freak out looking at all the hundreds of buttons and options it’s overwhelming it doesn’t need to be that way. We need to design an interface for each task in application like maya.

Your comment on modeling and trackpad is totally relevant.

Yeah there’s no reason to use the trackpad to model. But modeling is just one of the 20 tasks you can do in maya.

We can’t expect the programmers to program 20 different interfaces that are needed. maya is great because we have so many ways to talk to the program at a higher level and we can create our own interfaces and many many many people have done this and many many many more will.

This CCP App is just a very necessary extension of a very cluttered program that needs to be simplified.

since I got my iPad I have been thinking would it be good to have my workstation be a touchscreen monitor?

And I’m still back-and-forth on whether that would be a good idea due to the comfortableness of it.

But in the meantime getting to create my own custom keyboards and sliders and gestures is definitely the way I want to go for a lot of tasks.
