I don’t do a whole lot of modeling and if I was doing serious modeling I probably get a cinq.
The main thing that I’ll be using CCP for is character animation.
I see real potential in the most efficient character animation workflow possible with this CCP app.
I envision having quick hot keys for character controls and perhaps a section of the iPad where I can potentially use one finger for translate x two fingers for translate y three fingers for translate z moving them up and down to move control handles and space maybe.
I’ve been dying to get rid of the whole follow a little arrow workflow in character animation for years now and this is finally a reality because of this app.
There are so many different jobs that we do in a 3d application now so I think we need multiple tools to work on various tasks.
I’ve seen so little innovation with user interaction as far as most keyboard and mouse goes. The iPad has opened my eyes to much more efficient comfortable workflows but of course the iPad is not really a production tool for many areas.
The keyboard and mouse workflow hasn’t changed since the beginning of computers, except for pen tablets, but come on we haven’t done anything and this is finally something to get excited about.
The keyboard configuration that we pre-much have to get on a hardware keyboard is the keyboard that was designed to make typing inefficient so that typewriters wouldn’t get tripped up.
Why couldn’t we have something like an iPad where each person creates their own keyboard and interactive buttons for whatever they’re using, makes total sense.
The idea of having one keyboard for all tasks doesn’t make any sense to me.
I also excited about the possibility of gestures.
One finger means this two fingers means that three fingers means something else rotating my thumb with my index finger means this. We have 10 fingers we could have 10 different gestures which could very quickly trigger so many different commands.
Doesn’t mean I’ll never use my hardware keyboard and mouse and pen tablet but for creative tasks we need creative workflows and what better way to create a workflow specific for a creative task then creating a specific personal interface.
This CCP app works in my philosophy that everyone should learn programming even just a little bit.
It would be like moving to a new country and not learn the language.
We use these computers all day but we don’t bother to talk to them at a higher level it doesn’t make any sense.
We expect programmers to know what we’re thinking but everyone’s an individual everyone works differently and everyone should create their own user interfaces.
Have you ever shown somebody application like maya for the first time with the default user interface presented?
They completely freak out looking at all the hundreds of buttons and options it’s overwhelming it doesn’t need to be that way. We need to design an interface for each task in application like maya.
Your comment on modeling and trackpad is totally relevant.
Yeah there’s no reason to use the trackpad to model. But modeling is just one of the 20 tasks you can do in maya.
We can’t expect the programmers to program 20 different interfaces that are needed. maya is great because we have so many ways to talk to the program at a higher level and we can create our own interfaces and many many many people have done this and many many many more will.
This CCP App is just a very necessary extension of a very cluttered program that needs to be simplified.
since I got my iPad I have been thinking would it be good to have my workstation be a touchscreen monitor?
And I’m still back-and-forth on whether that would be a good idea due to the comfortableness of it.
But in the meantime getting to create my own custom keyboards and sliders and gestures is definitely the way I want to go for a lot of tasks.
