i get this strange refracting patterning in the photon output of diamond objects inside each other. This is a pyramid inside a sphere inside a box inside another pyramid, all diamond.
Any ideas?

Do you have “Calculate physically accurate caustics” turned on in the render settings?
Are you using dispersion in the material editor?
You may need to group and bake the transparent objects together.

yeah i did have “Calculate physically accurate caustics” on but not on the ultra setting.
The objects are grouped but not baked.
Dispersion was not set.
I will try to rerender with the suggestions and post the image.
P.S. do you know how good the “brain” is of the vuerender as far as calculating multiple complex arragements of light/energy patterns in focused settings?
(for example: if i build a laser in vue would the renderer be able to calculate the seperation of light, focus one spectrum and bounce between mirrors and eject a straight laser beam?)
Or is these types of calculatyions manually sett or “tricked” into manifestation?

I reset the settings and on ultra it took this 320x240 image 45 min to render.
The dispertion is set to 100%.
I still cant figure it out.

Which version are you using?
I can’t reproduce those errors. I haven’t seen them since early versions of 6 and 7.
Might want to make sure post glow is off. I don’t think it is a render quality issue.
It could be the anti-alias settings.
Also what lighting mode are you using?
I’ve tried in xstream 7.5 7.4, and infinite 7.2 and don’t see any errors.
You could render a multi-pass in final quality mode. And save out the primary lighting channels. You may be able to find the cause by breaking it down that way.
Shouldn’t need a large render.

I’m still useing version 7.0 but i will upgrade soon.
There is a point light set at the default 50 power level in the dead center of the inner pyramid.
