Casting shadows using alpha maps and default scanline renderer


I’m rendering this scene with default scan-line renderer and shadow maps. That seems to be the fastest as far as I can tell, art renderer and mental ray are a problem in that regard. The actual scene is pretty complex.
Is it possible to get accurate shadows cast on the ground from these plants that are using alpha map textures using default scan-line?
I can only control the softness and density of these solid shadows, with no individual leaves casting their shapes. No settings seem to work but I might be missing something. Thanks for any help.


Not with shadow maps. You’d have to use raytraced shadows.
