Car animation problem

#1

hi, i started doing a car animation that happens on an unstable land, now my problem is how to make my car animate on my “curvey” land in a realsitic manner ??

#2

It sounds like you need to draw a curve which matches the shape of the land, in the direction youi want the car to go, then to attach your car to the curve as a motion path object mate…

thanks for the help, but i have alot of rocks and i want my car collide with the rocks and then hit a house in a dynamic way so what’s the approach for that?? motion paths works nice but i want it in a dynamic manner, is it possible ??

Dude. Take a look at this video tutorial by 3dquakers.com

It is for XSI, but this is sure what you want. I don’t use XSI though.

Here is the link for the demo video.

Hope it helps…

Thanks “Stucky” for the link, i really liked it  , but how can i create the control box on maya like that of XSI ??

#6

Hummmm…In Maya perhaps only with MEL. I don’t know if XSI has a more intuitive way to create that kind of attributes without having to code. But I think you can create it with attributes you create in the channel box, with Set Driven Keys and so. But a window like that , I think yo can only create it with MEL…

i dont know mel, i liked the way the car reacts to the speed when it flies on the hill when it walks with high speed and i can’t achieve that with a motion path. I tried motion path again and created a poly plane making it a passive rigid body but when i came to make my wheels a rigid body i find that Maya gives me an error and it tells me that it couldnt create a rigid body for my wheels!! i need a way for this as im willing to add RealFlow liquids to make my car make splashes. Here’s a screenshot for my scene.

BTW you can check David Schoneveld video on this link so maybe i’ll get more help on this.

After creating a parent constrain for the cubes with the car_group which worked nicely, but when i came to point constraint each tire to its respective cube i got an error that tells me that the “object is already connected”!! so what am i doing wrong??

#9

Yes, that’s how you wanna do it.
Never mind the window, that’s just XSI’s native way of dealing with custom properties.

As for the car rig used in the video - it’s entirely based on rigid body dynamics.
All you need to do is create a basic rig with wheels, suspension etc. and parent all your relevant car parts accordingly.

#10

looks like you have a connection already

the ground cube should have a geometry constrain and a parent constrain, the tire should have a point constrain and be straight parented to the car body. does that help?

#11

i sort of solved the problem but what if i want to make my car fly after climbing a small hill like the one you did on your video then what’s the approach for that?? is it a normal set key to give the car the command to jump or there is another way that can achieve better results??
