Can't paint onto new layers

#1

Hi there

I haven’t used painter in a number of months and have decided to pick it up again, but I have run into some sort of a problem.
When I create a new file, I can only paint or draw on the background layer. If I create a new layer, I cant put any sort of mark onto it.
I have no idea why this could be happening.
Any ideas?
(I am using Painter 8)

Check that you haven’t locked transparency. I only have Painter X and 11 but in these versions there is a Preserve Transparency checkbox at the top of the Layers Palette - it’s probably the same in 8. Painter X actually has a bug and occasionally transparency is locked even though the PT is unchecked. You have to select it and then unselect.
