Can't add a material to the bevels of a boolean object...

#1

I have several primitive objects, which are under a boole, to subtract one from the other. I then have the bevel effector adding a bevel to that resultant edge. All fine and good. But when I try and add separate materials to the cut surface, and the original shapes, C4D refuses to add any material to the beveled edge. I think it has something to do with the “create single object” option in the boole object, BUT without that being enabled, the bevel can’t be created!!!

I’d post my project, but am I missing something, as that doesn’t seem possible here any longer? What am I missing…?

It is possible,

Select object A
Select all polygons
Select > Set selection
Give it a name

Repeat for Object B

Now place the material you want on the bevels onto the boole first. Then add the materials for Object A and B to the boole but restrict them to the polygon selections you made. So you end up with:

Boole : BevelMatTag, ObjectAMatTag, ObjectBMatTag

  • Object A : PolygonSelectionTag
  • Object B : PolygonSelectionTag
  • BevelDeformer

You need to use a file sharing source like dropbox, etc.
Images are mostly OK when adding to a post … sometimes you need to edit and attach again …
