can you please suggest a video card?

ok so i have been through all the reviews and done my google-ing but i am still confused as to which card i should buy? can any of you power users suggest or tell me which card you are using?

i need it for video editing
compositing

price is not an issue

Video card as in computer monitor or as in video output to a VTR and NTSC/HD monitor?

I use a radeon 9500 pro on my home combustion system. A Nvidia Quadro 3400 at work. I’m buying myself an Nvidia 6600gt for my home system over christmas. I would strongly recommend an Nvidia card regardless of price range.

Honestly, I’ve heard alot about the Quadro cards, but I’ve never seen any percievable performance improvement over a significantly less expensive consumer gaming card. I would recommend just going with an SLI of two top of the line Nvidia gamer cards… I think the 7800 ultras were the most recently released.

However if money is of no object to you, why not buy a Quadro 4000 Dual SDI?

and while i am at it…which video capture card do you guys use…or it is just a firewire…i dont want ay dropped frames or the sound going out of sync:(

I use some crappy 12 dollar firewire card from Best Buy at home. My work machine just had a firewire port on the front. Haven’t had any trouble with either.

If you plan on using Avid though, check their compatibility list. They’re kind of picky, although again I use avid and haven’t had any trouble, just what I hear.
Hopefully none of this will matter when I buy a firestore.
