can you export quicktime .movs into maya (exported from PFtrack to Maya 2011)

#1

hey guys easy question for you

Can i export quicktime movie files into maya 2011?

Im working a long a mate on a short film and he uses his mac to export his films into .movs.

Ive exported this quicktime vid into PFtrack to do all the neccesary tracking and 3d implentation.

NOW…

when i export all my footage from PFtrack to Maya 2011 it tells me that .mov is an invalid file

how do i get past this for the purpose of finishing my scene?

Probably a codec issue.
Use images sequences.

#3

What do i have to do to get this to work?

#4

Which one? The codec issue?
Both sides should use a widely available codec(both on PC and Mac), not something like Apple Intermediate or ProRes.
The image sequence?
Depending on what your mac guy is woking with he can convert quicktime files into images. FCP, Premiere, After Effects and Avid can do this, if he’s not using any of those there’s plenty of alternatives(QT 7 for instance).

you HAVE to use image sequence files for Maya.
and the naming convention for the sequences HAS to have DOTS separating the frame numbers and the file extention. It will not work if it is underscore _ or dashes -

RIGHT:
Name_sequence.001.tga

WRONG
Name_sequence_001.tga
Name_sequence-001.tga
Name_sequence001.tga
