Can mudbox transfer uvs to new topology

#1

Hi all this is my process so far.

Made base mesh in max.
Sculpted in mudbox.
exported to max, did the uvs.
Back to mudbox and painted.

So now my model is finished. Ok now I am usng 3D coat to retopologise my model.
Of course the retopologised model will not have any uvs.

If I load into my scene the retopologised model. Will mudbox be able to transfer the uv layout from the hires model to the new topologised model?

Otherwise I am going to end up creating another set of uvs in max for the retopologised model, which was time consuming the first time.

Also if I have to redo the uvs on the new retopologised model, will mudbox be able to transfer the texture from the hires to the new model ok, or will I have problems?

I hope my questions are clear heh heh.

No Mudbox can’t transfer UVs to my knowledge. You might be able to do that in Max with the projection modifier, but I’ve never found it very successful for UVs. You’ll probably have to do them again. It’s not that difficult any more with tools like Peel, Pelt and so on to help.

You can transfer paint layers in Mudbox from the original model to one with different Uvs though so that part should go ok.

Hi RobinC,

Thanks. Nearly finished retopologising my model so I will have a go soon. Having a bit of trouble with the ear in 3D coat at the moment heh heh.
