Can Mudbox do these?

#1

Greetings Mudbox lovers.

I’m a zbrush guy and my studio recently decided to use mudbox. I don’t mind using new tools, but there are few functions I usually use in zbrush and now I have trouble finding them in mudbox. I wonder if some of you can help me find the answer.

  1. reconstruction (without using a map).
  2. project all.
  3. smart resym.
  4. polygroups.

  1. if you mean with reconstruct unsubdivide than no…
    2. nope…
    3. select some faces go to the sculpting layer and under the > icon mirror X
    4. there are no polygrouping but you could use selection sets or uv tiles…

thanx a lot Oglu!

yes, i meant reconstruction unsbdivide.

good to know that there’s a solution for number 3.

if you need those features…
report them to autodesk…

in the mudbox help menue --> suggest a feature

if more artists will report those features they will climb higher in the priority list…!!

My advice: don’t try to compare Zbrush vs Mudbox…
Pick up the 30 trial…and get the feel for your self…most probably you will use both apps

For some workflows you can use the “Import as Layer” to reconstruct a mesh without using a map. That is, as long as you can supply Mudbox with a copy of your lowest level and your highest level, Mudbox should be able to recreate the levels in between.

Hi Jack, re number 4, the third tab in the bottom left is the selection tab, you can select objects or polygons to sculpt, mask or freeze… It’s only a workaround tho

Number 2, I remember reading about a resculpt from displacement map function or something similar. Don’t expect much of the alien technology from ZB in Mudbox bro but it still does the job;) Good luck
