Camera distance based - SubD tessellation

Is that possibel in Maya MR?
Maybe there is an Howto :-)…

Are you using mentalraySubdivApprox node for the subdivision approximation in mental ray?.

If that’s the case you can use Approx Method set to L/D/A and check View dependent.

I think length and distance are measure as pixel in view dependent mode, so level of subdiv will depend on distance to camera, less subdivision when the object is smaller, but increasing subdivision when the object moving closer to camera (bigger).

I’m not really sure about this, maybe someone can tell us more.
