c++ job market vs 3d job market?

#1

i am going to college to do 3d and multimedia and do it well now,my modeling skills are good ,but the jobs seem so not there in the 3d market, well if they all seem you need experince like 4 yrs or so,i also do a little c++ programming at home and have been enjoying it as much as 3d,i may be looking to change over in college and get me a certifcation in c++ soon,i notice the job market looks alot better and more jobs for those type people,i really enjoy both and i plan on getting real good at both programs,im just wanting to know which has the better job out look, for someone getting out of college i would say, also down the road?Thanks,Chris^_^

C++ covers a MUCH larger area than 3D, but it includes jobs in areas you probably wouldn’t like because it is so broad.

Now garbageman. That’s the way to go!

yeah. but a good intersection of the two is what i really love to do (and i am very lucky to live doing what i love)

you might want to study A LOT (not just a little) to improve your skills and keep up to date on 3d programming. R&D and shaderwriting are 2 very exciting jobs. It’s not going to be easy. And you (as me, as everyone) are never going to be done with studying and learning.

good luck

If you can write complied operators and plug-ins for a feature film studio, then it’s definately a hot place to be. These spots pay very well and you’re more or less ensured job security.

If you know a good bit of 3D and can intuitively think about how artist would like to work in terms of making things easier and faster, then you’ll definately get snatched. The industry are always looking for bright programmers to push the envelope.

peace,

Lu
