Buying PC for learning 3D Studio Max

#1

Hello everybody,

I am used to using Maya/Vray for most of my work, but recently I have been offered an interview for a job that also requires some knowledge of 3d Studio Max. I am a Mac user and so have little experience with Max except through parallels which I found did not work well.

So I am thinking I should purchase a cheap PC just so I can quickly learn some Max skills. As I know virtually nothing about PCs, what would you advice me to purchase? Can I just buy a machine from the local PC store, or will I be required to build something myself?

I only have about $2000 AUD to spend. I hope that will be enough.

Thank you in advance.

Ian

PCPartPicker part list

This would be a very powerful pc to start with. I didn’t know if you needed a 2nd monitor too, so I included one, just in case. If you don’t need one, we could make some changes to enrich the tower’s parts.

It’s better to build one by yourself. Prebuilt pcs are quite expensive for what they can really offer.

To be brutally honest for something to learn with, the only thing to keep an eye on is that it has a real gfx card and ideally an SSD over a spinning harddrive. Find a machine which mentions “GeForce 1050” or any higher numbered variation and you should be pretty much good to go. Just make sure it actually includes the windows 10 OS and another other parts youll need (keyboard, mouse screen) as naturally you can buy any combination of parts.
