Bridge Tool Madness

#1

Okay so i am making a head as Dion does in the head tutorial. So I am say making part of the eye and have a 1 poly gap between two areas of geometry. I try to bridge the hole and… I get a twisted poly. Is there any way to say reorder the points so I can actually work with the bridge tool? My only usable workaround so far is to just edge extend into that area and then join my vertexes which takes a great deal more time than just clicking bridge once.

I haven’t looked at the tutorial (sorry Dion) how did you try to bridge it? edge to edge/two groups of polys?

#3

Pretty much just two parallel edges and then click in the middle to group them. Sometimes it works but it really hasn’t been working so far.

In c4d at least when you bridged verts together you needed to go in a certain order. I can’t really make an order here because it’s only two groups of already formed edges but yeah, this has me stumped.

You need to adjust the “twist” value in the tool properties panel.

Okay so I fixed my problems, my entire mesh had just gotten jacked up by soemthing I really don’t know what. Basically the whole mesh was almost I would say “duplicated” underneath it’self and connected at certain points. So that sometimes I would be bridging to another mesh that really wasn’t another mesh. Basically I had alot more polys/verts/edges than I thought I did. These were causing the tools to mess up a little. Anyways the only way i was able to fix this was taking the file into c4d and using the optimize tool. In c4d the optimize tool welds all polys / verts / edges within a certain tolerance together. I couldn’t find this tool in modo but it’s got to be in there somewhere. Does anyone know the name of this tool ? I really do need it I can’t export my mesh into cinema scale by 1000 times reverse my scale etc. etc. etc. everytime I have a mesh issue in modo.

Vert -> Merge will merge all the points all over your model that fall very close to each other

Poly -> Unify will take any polygons that share the same verts and remove them

So if you do something like copy and paste your model twice in the same place you can remove the duplicate without even having to select it.

#7

Unify thank god, I just needed a name :-). I was using join averages instead of merge so I guess that was my problem :-P.

#8

Hmm so more issues sigh, okay so I get rid of all the polys and verts I don’t need but for some reason I end up with about a million edges stacked on top of each other. Is there a command to get rid of these as well? Sometimes the tools just lock up on me and I guess that I end up just trying them over and over again and low and behold I get alot of “invisible” but still present geometry.

If you’ve ended up with lots of two point polys use the Info & Statistics panel to select all the polys with 2 verts and delete em.
