Brand spanking new Flash site

#1

It’s great to be back in the game with my brand new website featuring some of those pesky features that I wanted to know about a few weeks back.

Take a look at the layout and gallery system and let me know what you think http://www.eyecandystudios.net

The site was built in Flash MX and use PHP, flatfiles and MySql as a backend

Man what work

comments are of course welcomed

I really like the site. Great music choice. Nice transitions.

One little thing, though…on some of the sections, your color inset for your scrollbars can be dragged out of the scrollbar.

I can tell you’ve put a ton of work into this. Great job.

ARgh motherf… er… I mean, darnnaggit!, IE crashed and took my almost-done reply with it. I hate you whoever makes that happen! It was trying to watch the Will2k parody too, so I think I know who’s to blame!

ANYway, jeez, lemme see if I can’t reconstruct it more or less…

…er, yeah, so I like your site, looks good. It has a quiet niceness over it that I tend to be fond of. It fares well on my website-checklist I’ll just make up on the spot now:
no popups – check
no freakishly boring intro – check
no annoying and/or loud sounds – check
buttuglyness levels near or at zero – check

It’s darn nice to hear it’s database driven… idunno why I take such notice of it, just… well I guess I just wanted to say it’s good that it is :). It seems likely I’ll be requiring assistance making things click properly between Flash and PHP/MySQL in the near-ish future, so definitely nice to hear others in this forum has traversed that dangerous road before.

I proceeded to the gallery and, hell yeah, that’s a pretty slick way of handling it  I feared you had resorted to popups when I saw the interface, but it works nicely the way you’ve managed it.

My line is terribly overburdened right now, so right at first nothing actually happened when I clicked a button… idunno if there are no preloaders between pages or something, but it wasn’t until I went back here to write “nothing is happening” that I disovered that with a bit of patience things did, infact, appear.

Also, the navbar seems to go away oddly. It sticks if I move the mouse away from it, but dissapears if I move the mouse back over it again. A bug, or intentional? Since it pops up when the mouse hovers over one of the main catagories, I think it ought to go away when the mouse leaves the list as well.

Layout wise what I can think of is not really a bugreport, more like… thoughts on your choice. The site is limited to the little box (sized for the 800x600 people I guess?), so you’re not offering any advantages to people with larger monitors, and such. The site works nicel nicely as it is, and I guess it’s just a personal preference or something, it’s just… well I’m just mentioning it because you might have some deeper underlying reasons for locking everything into the box instead of opting for adding content downwards and letting the user scroll.

… there… I think that was about it… nice site.

Thx much for the comments guys, really appreciated!

DainBramaged Yeah that scrollbar bug has been a pain in the rump for awhile, someday I’ll really have to sit down and look it over

gaggle Wow man great review, thanx much for the effort! The navbar wasn’t intentional so that’s a note to fix that area. The hotspot isn’t big enough that’s why  As for the site size, I’m running on a 21" monitor with 1600x1200 and it looks great here  thx again
