Boujou tracking, solve points all a bit 2D

#1

hey guys, im hoping to do more work with 3D compositing as its become a passion thanks to university classes in it, and today i decided i was going to be productive and get myself into boujou and learn the basics at least.

i followed a tutorial on Video Co-Pilot and learnt how to work the software, then i wanted to try somthing for myself, so i got some free HD stock footage, broke it down into an image sequence and imported to boujou, went through all the steps, but when i export as a camera solve (or check the 3D view inside boujou) its all a little 2D, and at the wrong axis too, it seems that boujou hasnt picked up any depth in the footage

heres some links to show what i mean:

and heres the footage i used:

i did a standard procedure of tracking, then camera solving, and then setting the X, Y and origin axis

i set the X and Y on the concrete slab by the bench as that tracked perfectly

does anyone have any advice?

Change your camera solver to a nodal pan, and set the Focal Length range to varying.

What’s happening is that the camera is hardly moving in any direction. It’s staying in one spot and panning around. This means that the amount of parallax is very minimal thus your solver can’t extract any depth data. You also have a slight zoom out, Boujou treats tracks as if the lens isn’t changing unless you tell it that it is. That’s why you would change it to varying.

What your going to get is going to be 2D-ish, but that’s normal for a nodal pan solve. Just extract some key points and guess the 3D environmental as best as you can in your program.

Also, you need to properly orient the scene yourself in most cases. Use the scene geometry tab to set it up.
