Boolean problems

#1

Hi, i want to cut this quarter of a column in this cube but it cuts wierdly. I want it to cut only the surface, but what it does is it cuts all the objects within the column quarter. It is one object with attached other objects inside it.

high res

thanks in advance

You should make sure that the ornamental column is also one single piece. So if it’s a bunch of separate elements try Union Booleaning it all together and then try again.

Also make sure to backup your objects before doing ANYTHING to do with booleans as they can be quite unstable at times.

well the column it 1 object consisting of 4-5 editable polys attached to each other forming 1 editable poly. Im gonna try union boolean though. Will update with results tomorow maybe

thanks.

Hey man,

You’ve hit the limits of boolean operators.

Try duplicating your surface. Invert the normals, and move the flat faces on the back to form your new shape. You can also just delete the flat faces, and extrude new edges out to form your block.
